Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) scored a goal in her third consecutive match to start the season; however the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team (1-1-1, 0-0 CCAC) came up short in its upset bid of No. 13 Indiana University Wesleyan, losing 3-1, Monday afternoon on Bruce R. Maddie Manzke (Orland Park, Ill./Keiser/Webber International/Warner/Sandburg) also scored a point in her third straight match, earning an assist on Jonaitis's goal. Junior goalkeeper
Natalie Dybas (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) made eight saves in goal for the Cougars. Overall, SXU was outshot by a 24-5 margin.
- Senior midfielder Veronica Davila (Bourbonnais, Ill./Governors State/Bradley-Bourbonnais) led Saint Xavier with a pair of shot attempts in 77 minutes of playing time.
- Jonaitis, senior midfielder Hailey Henry (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah Community) and graduate student midfielder Lexi Shreve (Coon Rapids, Minn./Crown/Maranatha Christian Academy) each finished with one shot attempt.
- The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead into halftime after scoring a goal in the 37th minute from the left side of the net.
- Manzke found Jonaitis racing up a seam in the middle of the pitch and Jonaitis laced a shot into the lower right corner for her fourth goal of the year in the 74th minute. For Manzke, it was her fourth assist of the season.
- IWU scored the game-winning goal nearly 10 minutes later in the 84th minute and they added an insurance tally a minute later in the 85th minute to come away with the win.
Saint Xavier (1-1-1/0-0 CCAC) has a quick turnaround as they travel to Mishawaka, Ind. to take on Bethel University (Ind.) in a non-conference tilt on Wednesday, September 3. The match is slated for a 6:00 pm central kickoff.
