Bourbonnais, Ill. – Behind a season-high 10.0 blocks (five solos and 10 block assists), the Saint Xavier University women's volleyball team (5-4, 3-1 CCAC) extended its winning streak to four in a row as they topped Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in four sets (25-22, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21) in a tough back and forth contest Tuesday evening at McHie Arena in Bourbonnais, Ill. Carrington Smith (Flossmoor, Ill./Marian Catholic) posted nine kills on a .333 attack percentage (9-3-18) with a season-best three blocks (one solo) and a pair of service aces. Senior outside hitter
Jenny Jensen (Orland Park, Ill./Cardinal Stritch/Sandburg) also finished the match with nine kills, along with two blocks (one solo), two digs and an assist. It was the fourth straight match that the Cougars tallied 60.0 or more points, collecting 61.0 on the evening.
- Senior setter Samantha Hovey (Mackinaw, Ill./Heartland/Dee-Mack) came away with her seventh double-double of the year, after registering 18 assists and 15 digs. She also had seven kills, two aces and two blocks.
- Senior middle blocker Nicole Grochola (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) tallied eight kills, four blocks (one solo), an assist and a dig.
- Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Delaney Panozzo (Grant Park, Ill./Grant Park) had seven kills, a season-high four assists, four digs and three blocks (two solos).
- Fifth year senior libero Avanna Martinez (Coamo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Ponceno) continued her tough defensive play, scooping up a team-leading 17 digs. She added three assists and two service aces.
- Junior setter Abbey Opilka (Dyer, Ind./Hanover Central) handed out 14 assists along with two aces, a dig and a kill.
- Senior outside hitter Tara Glynn (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards) recorded three kills, two digs, an assist and a block.
- Sophomore libero/defensive specialist Taylor Vann (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuinness Catholic) collected three digs and a service ace.
- Graduate student defensive specialist Katie DeHaan (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) added six digs, while senior defensive specialist Ariel Hoskin (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) chipped in four digs and an assist.
Saint Xavier (5-4/3-1 CCAC) hosts St. Ambrose University (Iowa) in CCAC action at the Shannon Center on Thursday, September 18 in Chicago, Ill. The match is set for a 7:00 pm first serve.
