Swaw Shines; SXU Women’s Soccer Tops IU Northwest, 3-0

CHICAGO – Freshman midfielder Paige Swaw (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) scored her first two collegiate goals and added her first collegiate assist to help guide the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team (2-3-1, 1-0 CCAC) to a 3-0 victory over Indiana University Northwest to begin Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play Wednesday evening at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. Swaw logged four shots on goal with four shot attempts in 90 minutes on the pitch. Junior goalkeeper Natalie Dybas (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) made a pair of saves to earn her first shutout of the season. She has aided by a backline of senior midfielder Hope Lewis (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb), junior defender Klair Heim (Denver, Iowa/Iowa Central/Denver) and junior defender/midfielder Stephanie Quevedo (Cicero, Ill./Morton East), who limited the RedHawks to just three shot attempts and two shots on goal.
  • The Cougars recorded a season-high 17 shot attempts and took a season-best 11 shots on goal.
  • Graduate student Lexi Shreve (Coon Rapids, Minn./Crown/Maranatha Christian Academy) netted her first goal for SXU. She had three shot attempts while playing the full time.
  • Junior forward Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) had three shot attempts, two shots on goal and she picked up her first assists of the year in 90 minutes on the pitch.
  • Senior midfielder Veronica Davila (Bourbonnais, Ill./Governors State/Bradley-Bourbonnais) collected three shot attempts and two shots on goal in 64 minutes off the bench.
  • After a scoreless first half that saw Saint Xavier hold a 6-1 shot advantage, Swaw took a pass from senior midfielder Vicki Ferrer (Cicero, Ill./Morton/Morton East) and rocketed a shot into the lower right side past the goalkeeper in the 53rd minute. Ferrer earned her first assist of the season.
  • Swaw scored her second goal of the match after receiving a pass from Jonaitis to extend the lead to 2-0 in the 74th minute.
  • Just over two minutes later in the 76th minute, Swaw connected with Shreve, who lined a shot past the keeper to secure the conference win.
Saint Xavier (2-3-1/1-0 CCAC) hosts Governors State University (Ill.) in a CCAC contest on Saturday, September 20. The match is slated for a 12:00 pm kickoff.
