CHICAGO – The Saint Xavier University women's soccer team (3-3-1, 2-0 CCAC) controlled the pace of the match, outshooting their opponent 40-0, enroute to a 3-0 triumph over Governors State University in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) contest Saturday afternoon at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. The Cougars played with a man advantage for the majority of the match after a Jaguar player was unable to return to the pitch with 20 minutes remaining in the first half. Graduate student
Lexi Shreve (Coon Rapids, Minn./Crown/Maranatha Christian Academy) was the lone SXU player to play all 90 minutes, and she finished with her second goal of the season on three shot attempts.
- Junior defender Klair Heim (Denver, Iowa/Iowa Central/Denver) recorded her first goal for Saint Xavier while playing 51 minutes.
- Freshman midfielder Angelica Flores (Chicago, Ill./Hubbard) scored her first collegiate goal after coming away with three shot attempts in 74 minutes of play.
- Junior goalkeeper Natalie Dybas (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) started the match and earned the win. Freshman goalkeeper Cristina Ramirez (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) made her collegiate debut in net when she started the second half.
- Senior midfielder Veronica Davila (Bourbonnais, Ill./Governors State/Bradley-Bourbonnais) tallied a match-high nine shot attempts with three shots on goal and an assist in 74 minutes.
- Junior forward Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) collected seven shot attempts with six shots on goal while playing 64 minutes.
- Heim lined a shot from 30 yards out through a crowd that deflected past the GSU keeper to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.
- In the 17th minute, Davila had her shot on goal saved, however the ball redirected to Shreve who sent a shot in just under the crossbar to extend the advantage to 2-0. It was Davila's first assist of the season.
- Flores received a pass from freshman midfielder Paige Swaw (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) and laced a shot from 15 yards out past the diving goalie to cap the scoring in the 54th minute. Swaw picked up her second assist of the year.
Saint Xavier (3-3-1/2-0 CCAC) makes the short trip to Palos Heights, Ill. to take on Trinity Christian College in CCAC action on Tuesday, September 23. The match is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start.
