DETROIT – The Saint Xavier University women's bowling team narrowly missed qualifying for the eight-team tournament championship by 126 pins, finishing with 7,244 after the individual games on Saturday and 16 Baker Games on Sunday at the 55
th Annual Brunswick Midwest Collegiate Championships at 5 Star Lanes in Detroit, Mich. this weekend. The Cougars knocked down 4,380 pins in five games on Saturday, with sophomore
Brianna Merner (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) placing 37
th overall after totaling 909 pins for an average of 181.8. She hit a high of 212 pins in game five. SXU added 2,864 pins on Sunday. In the finals, No. 5 seeded Milligan University (Tenn.) defeated No. 3 Lawrence Tech University (Mich.) 2-1 in the best-of-three series (179-265, 176-145, 204-175).
- For the Baker Games on Sunday, Saint Xavier went with a six-player lineup. Redshirt junior Lida Burgos (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) and junior Jade Gabor (Newark, Ohio/Newark) switched between the anchor position in all 16 games. Senior Breanna Pimentel (Northlake, Ill./West Leyden) and sophomore Hadley Clark (Shelby Township, Mich./Mount Mercy/Utica) also competed in every game on Sunday. Senior Abigail Miller (Lockport, Ill./Joliet JC/Lockport Township) and Merner rotated into the lineup as well.
- The Cougars knocked over an average of 179.0 per game in the Baker Games. They struck a high of 230 pins in game 12, along with 200 or more pins in game one (216), game eight (201), game 13 (203) and game 16 (204).
- On Saturday, Pimentel just missed the Top 50 as she finished with 886 pins for an average of 177.2 to place 51st. She toppled a high of 234 pins in game three.
- Gabor was one pin behind her teammate with 885 to finish 52nd overall. She rolled an average mark of 177.0 with a high of 195 pins in game one.
- Burgos competed in four games, collecting 638 pins with an average score of 159.5. She struck a high of 191 pins in game four.
- Junior Elizabeth Voss (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) saw action in three games, hitting 199 pins in game two, 204 in game three and 164 in game four.
- Clark bowled in games one (156 pins) and two (167 pins).
Saint Xavier takes part in the NAIA Fall Invite, divided into two tournaments, that begin on Friday, October 16 at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Ill. Friday will feature the individual portion, followed by Baker Games competition on Saturday and Sunday.
