No. 21 SXU Women’s Bowling Finishes 23rd at Hoosier Classic

INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 21 ranked Saint Xavier University women's bowling team placed 23rd out of 64 teams at the 57th Annual Columbia 300 Hoosier Classic at Western Bowl in Indianapolis, Ind. this weekend. The Cougars were in 16th place on Saturday after the individual portion of the tournament, totaling 4,648 pins. SXU knocked down 2,592 pins in 15 Baker Games on Sunday, collecting an overall tally of 7,240 pins. In the eight-team tournament championship, No. 2 seed Mount Mercy University (Iowa) emerged as the tournament winner.
  • Saint Xavier had five bowlers rotate throughout the lineup for the Baker Games on Sunday: junior Abigail Miller (Lockport, Ill./Joliet JC/Lockport Township), junior Breanna Pimentel (Northlake, Ill./West Leyden), sophomore Jade Gabor (Newark, Ohio/Newark), sophomore Elizabeth Voss (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) and freshman Brianna Merner (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein).
  • The Cougars posted an average score of 172.8, hitting a high of 215 pins in game 14. They also hit 212 pins in game four and 203 pins in game 15.
  • On Saturday, Pimentel bowled well, placing 27th out of 418 competitors with a pin total of 1,023 across five games. She averaged a score of 204.6 with a high of 242 in game one. Pimentel also hit 206 pins in game two.
  • Gabor was 35th overall, striking 1,011 pins in five games for an average of 202.2. She hit 209 pins in game one, a high of 231 in game two, and 224 in game three.
  • Merner finished 82nd with 958 pins, averaging 191.6 in five games. She knocked down a high of 241 pins in game one.
  • Senior Emma Zalud (Bolingbrook, Ill./Downers Grove South) came away with a total of 803 pins in five games for an average of 160.6. She struck a high of 203 pins in game two.
  • Freshman Ashley Baeza (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) bowled in three games, striking 202 pins in game three, 200 in game four and 146 in game five.
  • Miller saw action in the first two games, hitting 171 pins in game one, followed by a mark of 134 in game two.
No. 21 Saint Xavier gears up for postseason play, awaiting their assignment for the two-day ITC Sectionals that begin on Saturday, March 14.
