Cougars Come Up Aces in Three-Set Win over TCC

Palos Heights, Ill. – Junior outside hitter Caydann Cox (Helena, Mont./Jamestown/Jamestown) established a new career-high with six services aces and the No. 2 ranked Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team (18-3/8-0 CCAC) tied the program's single-match record with 16 aces on the night in a three-set victory (25-16, 25-12, 25-20) over Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) competition Thursday evening at the DeVos Gymnasium in Palos Heights, Ill. It is the second time this season that the Cougars had 16 service aces in a match, and the seventh time overall in team history that SXU has hit that mark, also the fifth time in a three-set match. Cox added a match-best nine kills, five digs and a block.
  • Junior opposite hitter/outside hitter Donte Jennings (Spokane Valley, Wash./Morningside/Jamestown/Central Valley) recorded six kills on a .455 attack percentage (6-1-11), five digs and a block.
  • Freshman outside hitter Henry Truitt (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) collected his first collegiate kills, coming away with six on a .714 attack percentage (6-1-7). He also had two digs, an ace and his first collegiate block.
  • Junior setter Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) did a bit of everything, collecting a match-high 33 assists with a career-best tying five blocks, four digs and two service aces.
  • Senior middle blocker Tysen Myers (Apple Valley, Minn./Jamestown/Eastview) was efficient at the net with five kills on a .556 attack percentage (5-0-9) while adding three blocks.
  • Graduate student opposite hitter Matt Pennala (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach City/St. John Bosco) had a season-high four aces, with four kills, three digs and a block.
  • Freshman outsider hitter Owen Krause (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) also had four blocks, along with a dig.
  • Freshman middle blocker Hayden Grange (Mission Viejo, Calif./Trabuco Hills) tallied three blocks, three service aces, two kills and a dig.
  • Senior libero Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) totaled a team-leading six digs with two assists, while redshirt freshman middle blocker Nick Gutka (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Purdue Fort Wayne/Conant) added two blocks (one solo) and a kill.
No. 2 Saint Xavier (18-3/8-0 CCAC) finishes its extended road trip with a Tri-Match at St. Ambrose University (Iowa) on Saturday, March 21. They play the Fighting Bees in CCAC action at 1:00 pm, followed by an NAIA Top 15 tilt with No. 12 Bethel University (Ind.) at 3:00 pm.
