Velez’s Season-High Leads No. 2 SXU Past GSU, 3-0

University Park, Ill. – Senior libero Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) logged a season-best 19 digs, his sixth match with 10 or more digs this season, as well as an assist to help guide the No. 2 ranked Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team (15-2/6-0 CCAC) to a 3-0 triumph (25-17, 25-18, 25-15) over Governors State University (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Thursday evening in University Park, Ill. The Cougars scooped up 34 digs as a team, their fourth-most in a contest this season, along with 11.0 blocks (two solos, 18 assists), the fifth time in 2026 that they have had 10 or total blocks.
  • Graduate student opposite hitter Matt Pennala (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach City/St. John Bosco) posted 17 kills on a stellar .500 attack percentage (17-4-26), tied for his second-highest kill total this year. He also had a season-best five blocks, five digs and a service ace.
  • Junior setter Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) paced the offense, dishing out 34 assists. He reached a career milestone as he became just the second player in team history to surpass 2,000 or more career assists, and he now has 2,032 assists for SXU behind former NAIA All-American Aaron Kummer (2017-21), who had 3,475 career assists. Daniels added three digs, two aces, two kills and a block.
  • Junior outside hitter Caydann Cox (Helena, Mont./Jamestown/Jamestown) collected nine kills, six digs, two assists, two solo blocks and a service ace.
  • Freshman middle blocker Hayden Grange (Mission Viejo, Calif./Trabuco Hills) recorded a career-high tying five blocks, five kills, two aces and an assist.
  • Freshman outsider hitter Owen Krause (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) totaled four kills, three blocks, two assists and a dig.
  • Senior middle blocker Tysen Myers (Apple Valley, Minn./Jamestown/Eastview) came away with four blocks and four kills.
No. 2 Saint Xavier (15-2/6-0 CCAC) makes the trip to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to play No. 11 Mount Mercy University (Iowa) in an NAIA Top 15 contest on Friday, March 13. First serve is set for 6:00 pm.
