CHICAGO – Behind a season-best .472 attack percentage (43-9-72), the No. 3 ranked, and top-seeded, Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team (27-3/14-0 CCAC) advanced to the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament Championship after a three-set win (25-17, 25-17, 25-20) over No. 4 St. Ambrose University (Iowa) in the CCAC Semifinals Thursday evening on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill. It was the eighth time this season that the Cougars had a .400 or better team attack percentage, and the fourth time at home. SXU makes its seventh appearance in the tournament final since 2019, excluding the 2020 season being canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, and sixth consecutive overall.
- Graduate student opposite hitter Matt Pennala (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach City/St. John Bosco) collected a match-high 12 kills on a .450 attack percentage (12-3-20), four digs, two blocks (one solo) and two service aces.
- Junior outside hitter Caydann Cox (Helena, Mont./Jamestown/Jamestown) came way with double-digit kills as well, posting 10 on a .318 attack percentage (10-3-22). He also had two digs, an ace and an assist.
- Junior opposite hitter/outside hitter Donte Jennings (Spokane Valley, Wash./Morningside/Jamestown/Central Valley) was strong at the net, recording nine kills on a phenomenal .615 attack percentage (9-1-13), along with three digs, an assist and a block.
- Junior setter Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) handed out 40 assists, a season-high for a three-set match, and his fifth match with 40 or more assists this year. He added two digs, a block, a service ace, and the match-winning kill.
- Senior middle blocker Tysen Myers (Apple Valley, Minn./Jamestown/Eastview) logged six kills on an efficient .556 attack percentage (6-1-9) and a solo block.
- Freshman middle blocker Hayden Grange (Mission Viejo, Calif./Trabuco Hills) finished with five kills on a .571 attack percentage (5-1-7), two blocks and a dig.
- Senior libero Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) dug up a match-high tying six digs while adding an ace and an assist.
No. 3 Saint Xavier (27-3/14-0 CCAC) plays the winner of the No. 2 Governors State University vs. No. 3 Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) match on Saturday, April 18 at the Shannon Center. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
