Trevor Corbett (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) collected seven RBI, including his first collegiate home run, to help guide Saint Xavier University baseball (28-14/19-9) to a four-game series sweep of Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) in a pair of Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) doubleheaders Friday and Saturday. Thomas Plizga (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Olivet Nazarene/Fremd) tallied eight strikeouts, allowing no hits through 7.0 innings in a 10-1 victory in game one. Junior pitcher
Cole Martz (Huntington, Ind./Kankakee/Huntington North) threw a one-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts over 7.0 innings, while Corbett and sophomore outfielder
Parker Violett (Maple Park, Ill./Kaneland) was both had RBIs in a 3-0 triumph. Junior infielder

Ben Meier (Beechwood, Ky./Lincoln Trail/Beechwood) propelled SXU to an 11-5 victory in the series finale.
Game One:
- Corbett was 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run scored and a walk.
- Polickey finished 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and a walk.
- Violett went 2-for-4 with two runs, two steals, an RBI and a double.
- Junior infielder Max Waszkiewicz (Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale South) scored twice with an RBI double, a triple and a stolen base, going 2-for-5.
- Meier swiped five bases, scored three times while finishing 1-for-4.
- Junior designated hitter Noah Dreier (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) cracked a home run, going 2-for-3 overall.
- Senior catcher Aaron Orzech (Streamwood, Ill./Crossroads Christian Academy) had two hits in four at-bats with an RBI double.
- Plizga (5-2) walked four batters with a hit-by-pitch before being relieved in the bottom of the 8th.
- Senior pitcher Nick Krueger (Clifton, Ill./Danville Area/Clifton Central) logged an inning out of the bullpen, allowing two hits, an earned run, and striking out two batters.
- Simecek pitched the bottom of the 9th, surrendering just a walk.
- Saint Xavier took a 3-0 lead in the top of the 2nd when Violett scored on a passed ball, Dreier homered and Polickey hit an RBI single.
- A sacrifice fly off the bat of Violett made it 4-0 in the top of the 3rd.
- Waszkiewicz hammered an RBI double, as did Corbett, extending the lead to 6-0 in the top of the 7th.
- In the top of the 8th, redshirt freshman infielder Jackson Michko (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central) pulled an RBI single to left and Polickey sliced an RBI base hit to right.
- The Crimson Wave got on the board in the bottom of the frame with an RBI double.
- Corbett hit a sac fly and Orzech clubbed an RBI double in the top of the 9th.
Game Two:
- Both pitchers went the distance, allowing a total of just five hits between both teams.
- Violett singled twice in three trips to the plate with a stolen base.
- Corbett was 1-for-3, as was Meier.
- Martz (3-4) lowered his earned run average (ERA) to a team-low 3.19, tossing his third complete game of the season with one walk and a hit-by-pitch.
- A double steal of second and home produce a run for SXU and Violett smacked an RBI single for an early 2-0 advantage.
- Corbett added an RBI double in the top of the 3rd.
- Martz recorded at least one strikeout in every inning, and he had a no-hitter going with two outs in the bottom of the 7th. After two groundouts to start the frame, Martz walked a batter and he posted a strikeout, however a passed ball allowed run runner to reach base. The next batter broke up the no-hit bid with a base hit. With the go-ahead run at the plate, Martz produced a ground ball out to seal the win.
Game Three:
- Simecek finished 3-for-3 with six RBI.
- Corbett scored twice, but had no official at-bats, drawing a pair of walks with a sac fly.
- Redshirt freshman infielder Drew Lichtenberg (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) came away with his first collegiate hit, a home run, finishing 1-for-2.
- Senior pitcher Osvaldo Ballesteros Jr. (Berwyn, Ill./St. Laurence) picked up his second win of the season (2-0) after throwing 5.0 innings with three hits, one run (unearned) and four strikeouts.
- Senior pitcher Gannon Burns (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) worked an inning of relief, posting a strikeout.
- Junior pitcher Anthony Valenza (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) made his collegiate debut, pitching the 7th inning and allowing three hits, one earned run and logging a strikeout.
- CCSJ took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st with an RBI double.
- Corbett tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a sacrifice fly.
- Simecek led off the bottom of the 2nd with a home run over the wall in left field.
- The Cougars added three runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Violett drew a bases loaded walk, Waszkiewicz scored on a wild pitch and Simecek lifted a sac fly.
- In the bottom of the 4th, Waskiewicz picked up an RBI after being hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded, Corbett walked with the bases packed, and Simecek lauched his team-leading ninth home run of the year to clear the bases.
- The Crimson Wave plated a run in the top of the 7th off an RBI single.
- Lichtenberg ended the game in the bottom of the 7th when he led off the frame with a home run.
Game Four:
- Corbett had a hit in three at-bats.
- Meier went 2-for-3 with a double.
- Waszkiewicz collected three hits in three trips to the plate with two runs scored and a steal.
- Violett finished 3-for-4 with two runs, an RBI, and a double.
- Dreier was 1-for-4 with two RBI, a double and a run scored.
- Simecek scored twice with a double, a walk, and a stolen base, going 2-for-3 overall.
- Sophomore pitcher Tyler Deluca (Minooka, Ill./Minooka Community) earned the win (3-2) after throwing 5.0 innings with three hits, two earned runs, two walks and striking out six batters.
- Graduate student pitcher John Creviston (Westchester, Ill./Benedictine/Brother Rice) pitched 0.2 innings, giving up two hits, two earned runs, a walk and two strikeouts.
- Junior pitcher Richard Gomez (Chicago, Ill./Parkland/Concordia/St. Laurence) came away with his second save of the year, working 1.1 innings of relief with two hits, one earned run and a pair of strikeouts.
- Corbett bashed a two-run home run and Violett lined an RBI single to give SXU a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st.
- Orzech hit a sacrifice fly and Meier sliced a two-run single to right for a 5-0 advantage in the bottom of the 3rd.
- Calumet St. Joseph hit a two-run single in the top of the 5th.
- A balk allowed a run to score and Meier clubbed an RBI double, extending the lead to 7-2 in the bottom half of the frame.
- CCSJ responded with an RBI triple and RBI base hit in the next half inning.
- In the bottom of the 6th, Dreier thumped a two-run double, Meier hit a sac fly and Polickey legged out an RBI infield single.
- The Crimson Wave tallied a run in the top of the 7th before Gomez rolled up a double play to complete the series sweep.
Saint Xavier (28-14/19-9 CCAC) hosts Indiana University Kokomo in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 21 at Ferrell Field. Game one is scheduled for a 1:00 pm first pitch.
