4x800 Relay Hits NAIA ‘A’ Standard in Busy Week for SXU Track

Bourbonnais, Ill. – The Saint Xavier University women's track & field team competed in three meets in three days this week. The 4x800 Relay Team of senior Yanira Deana Paninka (Canary Island, Spain/Central Methodist/IES Jandia), fifth-year senior Lexi Clarke (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet JC/Plainfield South), freshman Briana Krapf (Portage, Ind./Portage) and fifth-year senior Olivia Mathis (Akron, Ohio/Lourdes/St. Vincent-St. Mary) broke the school record by five seconds, a mark that stood since May 26, 2011, with a first-place time of 9:00.87 at the Drake University (Iowa) Relays in Des Moines, Iowa Thursday afternoon. The time, hitting the NAIA 'A' Standard, is also the best in the NAIA so far this season by over 10 seconds. The Cougars sent a limited group up to the Don Kleinow Memorial Invitational hosted by Siena Heights University (Mich.) in Adrian, Mich. Friday afternoon and on Saturday, SXU had its full roster on hand for the Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) Outdoor Open in Bourbonnais, Ill.

Kleinow Invite:
  • Senior Emerson Colins (New Lenox, Ill./St. Francis/Lincoln-Way West) equaled her program record in the 100m Dash preliminaries with her qualifying time of 12.02 seconds. Junior Amaya Rique (St. Louis, Mo./Mineral Area/Seckman) ran her second-best career time to qualify as well at 12.15 seconds, but do not run in the finals. Sophia Thomas (Highland, Ill./Highland) established a new personal record (PR) with her time of 13.68 seconds. In the finals, Colins placed fourth at 12.30 seconds.
  • Rique set a new PR in the 200m, and second-best time is team history, with a third-place time of 25.29 seconds. Colins logged her fourth-best career mark after finishing fifth at 25.59 seconds. Freshman Nyaa Williams (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) improved her PR from the week before, clocking in at 27.63 seconds. Junior Rashiya Warfield (Lansing, Ill./T.F. South) booked her second-best time of the season at 27.97 seconds.
  • Williams also lowered her PR in the 400m with a ninth-place time of 1:03.41.
  • In the prelims of the 100m Hurdles, Warfield posted the eight-best time in school history, and her fourth-best, to qualify for the finals at 15.35 seconds. Freshman Alesi Rodriguez (St. John, Ind./Andrean) came away with a new PR, crossing the finish line at 18.37 seconds. Warfield took fifth overall with a mark of 15.57 seconds in the finals.
  • Rodriguez ran nearly three second faster than her PR a week prior, taking seventh at 1:13.16.
ONU Outdoor Open:
  • Thomas nearly topped her PR from the day before in the 100m Dash, clocking in at 13.75 seconds. Williams was right behind her teammate with her second-best time of the year at 13.79 seconds.
  • Williams' PR in the 200m lasted less than a day as she ran a step faster on Saturday at 27.11 seconds. Junior Isabel Calderon (Orland Park, Ill./Olivet Nazarene/Sandburg) set a new PR for the third consecutive meet, finishing with a time of 27.37 seconds. Thomas came away with her second-fastest career time at 28.56 seconds.
  • Colins ran the eighth-quickest time in program history, setting a new PR, in the 400m at 1:00.35. Rique was closely behind with her second-best career mark at 1:00.79 as the duo finished third and fourth, respectively. Calderon placed sixth with her second-quickest career effort at 1:02.71.
  • Freshman Jiselle Aldrete (Chicago, Ill./Marist) debuted in the 800m, crossing the finish line at 2:56.36.
  • Mathis won the 1500m, just the fourth Cougar runner to do so, with her second-best career time of 4:44.60. Senior Isabella Alatorre (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) made her season debut in the race, checked in with a time of 5:36.31.
  • Running in the 3000m, junior Alexia Guzman (Chicago, Ill./Solorio Academy) demolished her previous PR by nearly 25 seconds, coming in at 11:46.02. Freshman Ava Scheeringa (Hebron, Ind./Hebron) kept pace with her teammate, running at 11:46.60 in her debut in the event.
  • Deana Paninka broke her own team record in the 100m Hurdles, posting a time of 14.72 seconds in the preliminaries. Warfield also surpassed the previous record with a PR of 14.85 seconds to qualify for the finals. The pair were first and second in the prelims, respectively. Rodriguez clocked in with a time of 19.62 seconds. In the finals, Deana Paninka was second at 15.02 seconds, while Warfield placed fourth at 15.62 seconds.
  • In the 400m Hurdles, senior Kenia Salgado (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) came away with a new PR with a sixth-place time of 1:16.16.
  • The 4x100 Relay Team of Colins, Rique, Warfield and Deana Paninka broke the school record set in 2022 with their first-place time of 48.12 seconds. It is only the third time SXU has won the relay, doing so twice in 2010.
  • Colins finished third in the Long Jump with a distance of 5.11m, her third-best career mark. Thomas produced a new PR with her seventh-place jump of 4.78m.
  • In the Shot Put, junior Amariah Scott (Chicago, Ill./Thornton Township) logged her best throw of 2026 with a fourth-place mark of 11.21m. Senior Jamie Sierocki (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) was sixth overall with her second-best throw of the season at 11.05m. Freshman Alexa Pena Flores (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) came away with a new PR to finish ninth at 10.48m. Freshman Brooke Becker (Tinley Park, Ill./Tinley Park) recorded her second-best throw of the year at 10.18m. Sophomore Mariah James (Alsip, Ill./Shepard) checked in with a distance of 9.96m.
  • Pena Flores also PR'd in the Discus, placing third at 36.70m. James finished sixth with her throw of 33.16m, just ahead of Sierocki's seventh-place mark of 32.82m. Becker recorded a distance of 28.19m, and Scott booked a toss of 27.52m.
  • Competing in the Hammer, James set a new PR for the second week in a row after she took third at 42.94m. Scott placed ninth with a toss of 38.04m, slightly better than Sierocki's distance of 37.99m, who was 10th overall. Becker topped her PR with a throw of 34.66m, while Pena Flores recorded a mark of 28.06m.
  • Sierocki won the Javelin, the second time she has done so, by breaking her school record with a distance of 37.21m. Pena Flores was second, also setting a new PR, at 27.60m.
Saint Xavier travels to Joliet, Ill. to take part in the two-day Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Championships that begin on Friday, May 2 at Joliet Memorial Field.
