INDIANAPOLIS – With the start of the match moved by an hour due to excessive heat throughout the Midwest, the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team (1-3/0-0 CCAC) lost 4-1 to Marian University (Ind.) Wednesday evening at ASV Field in Indianapolis, Ind. Senior midfielder/forward
Yael Diaz (Chicago, Ill./Moraine Valley/Hubbard) scored his first goal of the 2026 campaign as he played 82 minutes on the pitch.
- Junior forward Rodrigo Hernandez (Bridgeview, Ill./Stagg) registered two shots on goal on two shot attempts in 19 minutes as a reserve.
- Junior midfielder/forward Eduardo Perez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) also had two shot attempts with one shot on goal in 61 minutes off the bench.
- Redshirt senior goalkeeper Daniel Martinez (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) made one save before exiting the match midway through the second half.
- Senior defender Neil Soans (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) made his first collegiate appearance in net as the emergency backup, collecting a save in just over 27 minutes.
- The Knights recorded a pair of goals just 28 seconds apart in the 4th and 5th minutes, respectively, to take an early advantage.
- MU went up 3-0 in the 53rd minute and they added a fourth tally in the 72nd minute of play.
- Diaz converted a penalty kick in the 82nd minute.
Saint Xavier (1-3/0-0 CCAC) returns to Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field to host Goshen College (Ind.) in non-conference action on Saturday, September 5. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
