Athens, Tenn. – The Saint Xavier University baseball team (0-3/0-0 CCAC) was swept by No. 3 Tennessee Wesleyan University in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Athens Insurance Stadium in Athens, Tenn. The Cougars held a 5-1 lead in game one before the Bulldogs rallied to win 7-5 and SXU was up 3-0 in game two before TWU tied the game in the bottom of the fifth and won on a walk-off base hit with one out in the bottom of the 7th, 4-3. Junior catcher/outfielder Evan Orzech (Shorewood, Ill./Crossroads Christian Academy) finished the day 3-for-5 with four walks and a stolen base and junior outfielder Daniel Barrios (Manteno, Ill./Manteno) went 1-for-4 with three RBI's, two runs scored and belted his first home run of the season.

Game One:

• Orzech drew all four of his walks in the first game and went 0-for-1.
• Senior infielder Patrick Doran (Evergreen Park, Ill./NC Central/DuPage/South Suburban/Evergreen Park) was 1-for-4 with a pair of RBIs
• Senior infielder Declan Smyth (Evergreen Park, Ill./North Central/Evergreen Park) and senior outfielder Collin Woulfe (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) each doubled in four at-bats and Smyth collected an RBI.
• Junior pitcher Julian Vargas (Tinley Park, Ill./Tinley Park) suffered the loss after working 5.2 innings with six hits, five runs and striking out four batters.
• Sophomore pitcher Noah Scott (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) worked an inning of relief and allowed two hits, one hit, one run, a walk and had a strikeout.
• Sophomore pitcher Tommy Dougherty (Alsip, Ill./South Suburban/Shepard) threw 1.1 innings out of the bullpen with two hits, one run, a walk and struck out two batters.
• Tennessee Wesleyan took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2^nd on an RBI groundout.
• Doran put Saint Xavier up 2-1 in the top of the 3^rd with a two-run single. He was caught stealing later in the inning, but Smyth was able to score on the play to extend the lead to 3-1.
• Smyth roped an RBI double in the top of the 5^th and senior infielder Sam Ryan (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Conant) made it 5-1 in the top of the 6^th with an RBI single up the middle.
• TWU tied the game in the bottom of the 6^th with a pair of two-run home runs. They took the lead in the bottom of the 7^th with a two-out solo home run and would tack on a run on an RBI single in the bottom of the 8^th.

Game Two:

• Orzech collected three base hits in four at-bats along with a stolen base
• Smyth finished 1-for-3 with a walk and a steal.
• Sophomore pitcher Logan McCleery (Patterson, Calif./Patterson) made the start and went 4.2 innings with a no decision. He gave up just four hits, three runs, walked two and struck out six.
• Scott pitched 0.1 innings with a hit.
• Junior pitcher Caleb Ziehr (Rockford, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) logged 1.1 innings of relief with three walks and a run but took the loss.
• Junior pitcher Jimmy Fairley (Lake in the Hills, Ill./Rock Valley/Huntley) faced two batters and allowed a base hit.
• Barrios belted a three-run home run over the right field fence with one out in the top of the 2^nd.
• The Bulldogs tied the game in the bottom of the 5^th with a two-out, two-run home run that was followed by a solo homer to even the game at 3-3.
• TWU ended the game with one out in the bottom of the 7^th with an RBI single to centerfield.

Saint Xavier (0-3/0-0 CCAC) returns to Tennessee to take part in the Early Bird Classic that beings on Friday, February 10 in Millington Tenn. They will play Georgetown College (Ky.) in a doubleheader that is scheduled for an 11:00 am central first pitch.
