Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CHICAGO – Behind 25 hits and 32 runs, the Saint Xavier University baseball team (22-22/14-8 CCAC) swept Trinity International University (Ill.) in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. on 'Senior Day.' Three seniors, infielder Declan Smyth (Evergreen Park, Ill./North Central/Evergreen Park), outfielder Sam Ryan (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Conant) and infielder Darren Zarrillo (Grapevine, Texas/Frank Phillips/Grapevine) all had two RBI, with Ryan and Zarrillo hitting doubles in an 11-1 win in game one. The seniors led the charge in game two, a 21-7 victory, with outfielder Daniel Barrios (Manteno, Ill./Manteno) slugging two home runs and collecting seven RBI, with infielder Patrick Hayes (Chicago, Ill./Moraine Valley/Parkland/Brother Rice), outfielder Sean Haddlesey (Ann Arbor, Mich./Albion/Skyline) and Zarrillo adding two RBI apiece.

Before the game, 18 players were recognized for their accomplishments: Barrios, infielder Nick Dombroski (Crestwood, Ill./Shepard), infielder Patrick Doran (Evergreen Park, Ill./NC Central/DuPage/South Suburban/Evergreen Park), pitcher Tommy Dougherty (Alsip, Ill./South Suburban/Shepard), pitcher Kyle Downard (Paw Paw, Mich./Muskegon/Paw Paw), pitcher Jake Frencl (Frankfort, Ill./Southeastern CC/Lincoln-Way East), pitcher Brendan Gill (Evergreen Park, Ill./Moraine Valley/Mount Carmel), Haddlesey, infielder Trevor Hausherr (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest), Hayes, pitcher Ryan Martin (Whitestone, N.Y./Iona/St. Francis Prep), catcher Evan Orzech (Shorewood, Ill./Crossroads Christian Academy), Ryan, infielder Joe Rycerz (Schererville, Ind./Andrean), Smyth, outfielder Collin Woulfe (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township), Zarrillo and pitcher Caleb Ziehr (Rockford, Ill./Rockford Lutheran).

Game One:

• Smyth was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a walk.
• Sophomore outfielder Kevin Dowling (Chicago, Ill./Murray State/Mount Carmel) went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs, a double, an RBI, a stolen base and a walk.
• Sophomore pitcher Nico Saldias (Ajax, Ontario/Connors State/Pickering) moved his record to 4-4 on the bump this season after pitching 6.0 innings and allowing just four hits, no runs, two walks and five strikeouts.
• Gill worked the top of the 7^th and gave up two hits, a run and had a strikeout.
• The Cougars broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the 3^rd with five runs, all with two outs. Smyth started the rally with a two-run single to the gap in right center, Zarrillo ripped a two-run double, and Doran pulled an RBI single to right field.
• Hayes poked an RBI single through the right side of the infield to extend the lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the 4^th.
• SXU plated five more runs in the bottom of the 5^th. Ryan ripped a two-run double down the left field line, Haddlesey lined an RBI single, Dowling legged out an RBI infield single and Haddlesey scored on a passed ball.
• The Trojans hit a one-out home run in the top of the 7^th.

Game Two:

• Barrios finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a stolen base.
• Haddlesey also went 3-for-4 with three runs and two doubles.
• Freshman Gannon Burns (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) scored four runs, primarily as a courtesy runner and made a pair of putouts and had two assists as a defensive replacement at shortstop later in the game.
• Freshman catcher Aaron Orzech (Shorewood, Ill./Crossroads Christian Academy) went 2-for-2 with an RBI.
• Ziehr threw 4.0 innings with seven hits surrendered, five runs (four earned), a walk and five strikeouts.
• Dougherty (5-3) earned the win in relief and had a clean sheet with a strikeout.
• Freshman pitcher Trent Markezich (Mount Olive, Ill./Mount Olive) allowed one hit with a strikeout in an inning out of the bullpen.
• Junior pitcher Nicholas Bounardj (Chicago, Ill./Marist) gave up a hit, two runs and a walk in the top of the 7^th.
• Freshman pitcher Carter Kopp (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Bishop James Mahoney) finished the 7^th and allowed just a walk to end the game.
• An error gave TIU a 1-0 lead with two-outs in the top of the 2^nd.
• Saint Xavier responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning with a two-out rally. Dowling was hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded and Hayes singled down the left field line to drive in two runs.
• Trinity International retook the lead, 4-3, in the top of the 3^rd on an RBI triple, an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.
• The Cougars mounted another rally, plating four runs in the bottom of the 3^rd to go up 7-4. Smyth hit an RBI single, Zarrillo hit a sac fly, Barrios laced an RBI single to right field and Dowling belted an RBI triple.
• The Trojans got a run back in the top of the 4^th with an RBI base hit.
• Barrios sliced a three-run home run over the wall in left to push the lead to 10-5 in the bottom of the 4^th.
• SXU scored eight times in the bottom of the 5^th to carry an 18-5 advantage. Smyth and Zarrillo drew bases loaded walks, Aaron Orzech was hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded, Haddlesey split the gap in right center for a two-run double and Barrios highlighted the inning with a three-run home run to right field.
• In the bottom of the 6^th, freshman outfielder Ryan O'Farrell (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) hit an RBI single, freshman pinch-hitter Colin Stephens (North Liberty, Ind./Glenn) hit a sacrifice fly for his first collegiate RBI and freshman infielder Lucas Rodriguez (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) also collected his first collegiate RBI after a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded.
• TIU recorded a pair of runs on bases loaded walks in the top of the 7^th.

Saint Xavier (22-22/14-8 CCAC) hosts Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in a nine-inning contest on Tuesday, April 25 at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field. The game is slated for a 3:00 pm first pitch.
