Box Score CHICAGO – Senior outfielder
Sean Haddlesey (Ann Arbor, Mich./Albion/Skyline) was 2-for-2 on the afternoon with three runs scored, an RBI, a triple and a walk, and threw a runner out at home from left field, to help give the Saint Xavier University baseball team (23-22/15-8 CCAC) an 8-5 win over Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) contest Tuesday afternoon at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. With the win, the Cougars take the season series, 2-1, and moves them into a tie of second place in the CCAC with St. Ambrose University, each team 0.5 games behind conference leader University of St. Francis (Ill.). The win also pushes SXU's winning streak to four games, and they have now won five of their last six games.
- Sophomore outfielder Kevin Dowling (Chicago, Ill./Murray State/Mount Carmel) collected a pair of RBIs, scored a run, walked and had a stolen base.
- Freshman catcher Aaron Orzech (Shorewood, Ill./Crossroads Christian Academy) went 2-for-4. His courtesy runner, freshman Gannon Burns (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) scored twice.
- Sophomore pitcher Logan McCleery (Patterson, Calif./Patterson) worked 6.0 solid innings, allowing six hits, three runs, three walks and had four strikeouts to move his record to 2-3 on the bump this season.
- Sophomore pitcher Noah Scott (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) earned the 'old-school' save after working 3.0 innings of relief with five hits given up, two runs, a walk and a strikeout.
- Dowling led off the bottom of the 1st with a walk, stole second and scored after a pair of errors by the Tigers. ONU would finish the day with six miscues.
- A dropped fly off the bat of Dowling in the bottom of the 2nd that resulted in a sacrifice fly started a rally for Saint Xavier. Junior designated hitter Evan Orzech (Shorewood, Ill./Crossroads Christian Academy) picked up an RBI after an error and another run scored after the second error on the play gave the Cougars a 4-0 lead.
- Olivet Nazarene chipped away and scored three runs in the top of the 4th. They got on the board on a two-run single and an RBI base hit through the right side of the infield.
- Haddlesey sliced a triple to lead off the bottom of the 4th and scored on an RBI groundout off the bat of junior outfielder Daniel Barrios (Manteno, Ill./Manteno).
- Haddlesey drew a bases loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the 5th to extend the lead to 6-3.
- SXU added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th when Burns scored on wild pitch and Dowling drove in a run on a fielder's choice.
- The Tigers netted a pair of runs in the top of the 9th off an RBI single and a sac fly, however Scott recorded the final out on a fly out to center to secure the victory.
Saint Xavier (23-22/15-8 CCAC) welcomes Trinity Christian College (Ill.) to Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field for a nine-inning game on Friday, April 28. The game is scheduled for a 3:00 pm start.
