Eight Earn All-CCAC, Five Claim Gold Gloves for SXU Softball

CHICAGO – Eight members of the Saint Xavier University softball team (34-12/17-3 CCAC) were named All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) and five were honored with Gold Gloves as the conference announced the All-CCAC teams after the conclusion of the CCAC Tournament this weekend in Crown Point, Ind. that saw the Cougars win the tournament crown for the third season in a row. Earning All-CCAC First Team recognition: sophomore infielder Abbie Carr (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli), senior outfielder Lyda Robinson (Seneca, Ill./Seneca) and junior pitcher Laila Summers (Joliet, Ill./Providence Catholic). Members of the All-CCAC Second team include: senior outfielder Sarah Bowen (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire), senior infielder Morgan Haefling (Gilberts, Ill./Hampshire), senior outfielder Nicole Lovato (Channahon, Ill./Minooka Community), freshman outfielder Haley Matlock (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) and junior infielder Alexus Reese (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central).

SXU filled five of the nine slots on the inaugural CCAC Gold Glove Team with Haefling (shortstop), freshman infielder Kaitlyn Wright (Chicago, Ill./Marist) (Third Base), Bowen (Left Field), Robinson (Center Field) and Lovato (Right Field). Wright also earned the distinction as the top Gold Glover in the CCAC with her perfect fielding percentage on 131 chances (37 putouts and 94 assists).

All-CCAC:
  • Carr has played in 38 games with 36 starts for the Cougars and leads the team with a .396 batting average (42-for-106). She has 32 RBI, 29 runs scored, eight doubles, six walks, two stolen bases and two home runs. Carr sports an OPS (on-base plus slugging) of .984 and a .960 fielding percentage (49 putouts, 70 assists and five errors). She is tied for the conference lead with four sacrifice flies, is No. 7 in batting average, No. 7 in on-base percentage at .456 and No. 8 in RBI.
  • Robinson has played in and started all 46 games for SXU and is hitting .383 (62-for-162). She is second on the team with 37 stolen bases on 44 attempts, has 36 runs, 21 RBI, seven walks, two doubles and a .415 on-base percentage. Robinson leads the CCAC in plate appearances with 178, at-bats with 162 and total hits with 62. She is No. 3 in stolen bases, No. 5 in runs and tied for No. 5 with three sacrifice flies.
  • Summers has made 32 appearances in the circle with 23 starts this season. She carries a 21-7 overall record with 18 complete games, five shutouts, one combined shutout and she threw a Perfect Game on April 11. Summers has a 2.04 earned run average (ERA) in 151.1 innings of work with 89 strikeouts and has held opponents to a .249 batting average. She is fourth on the team in assists with 46 and has a .941 fielding percentage (two putouts and three errors). Summers leads the CCAC in victories, complete games, shutouts and is tied for the lead in saves with two. She is No. 2 in appearances and innings pitched, No. 3 in starts and No. 4 in ERA.
  • Bowen has played in and started 44 of the team's games this season and is hitting .345 (48-for-139). She leads the team with 12 doubles and has been hit-by-pitch 11 times, is second with 41 runs scored, 36 RBI, five home runs and four triples. Bowen also has drawn eight walks, stole two bases and holds a 1.011 OPS. She is tied for the conference lead in sacrifice flies with four, is No. 2 in hit-by-pitches, No. 3 in runs, No. 4 in total bases with 83, tied for No. 4 in home runs, No. 7 in slugging percentage at .597, is tied for No. 7 in doubles and tied for No. 9 in total hits.
  • Haefling has played in and started 45 of the team's games and is hitting .333 (47-for-141). She leads the team in triples with six and has 29 RBI, 24 runs, seven doubles and six walks. Haefling is tied for the conference lead in triples.
  • Lovato has played in 43 games with 42 starts and is hitting .379 (50-for-132). She leads the team with 41 stolen bases on 43 attempts, has scored a team-high 49 runs, drawn a team-best 17 walks and put down a team-leading eight sacrifice bunts. Lovato also has 15 RBI, two doubles, a triple and a .453 on-base percentage. She leads the CCAC in runs scored, is No. 2 in stolen bases, No. 3 in sacrifice hits, tied for No. 6 in total hits, tied for No. 7 in walks and is No. 8 in on-base percentage.
  • Matlock has played in 44 games with 42 starts and is hitting .353 (47-for-133). She has scored 34 runs, has 18 RBI, is 11-for-11 in stolen base attempts, has 10 walks, four sacrifice hits and two doubles. Matlock is No. 7 in the CCAC in runs scored.
  • Reese has played in and started 39 games and is hitting .365 (42-for-115). She leads the team with 40 RBI, seven home runs, has a .626 slugging percentage and a team-best 1.063 OPS. Reese has scored 16 runs, along with 11 walks and six hit-by-pitches for a .437 on-base percentage. She is No. 3 in the CCAC in home runs, is No. 4 in RBI and No. 6 in slugging percentage.
Gold Gloves:
  • Wright has helped turn six double plays this season and currently holds the SXU record for most chances in a season without an error. She is No. 2 in the CCAC in most chances without an error, however she has the most assists without a miscue. Wright is No. 4 in assists, tied for 10th in double plays and No. 28 in total chances.
  • Haefling leads the team with 96 assists, along with 42 putouts and five errors for a .965 fielding percentage. She also has turned four double plays. Haefling is tied for No. 2 in the CCAC in assists, is No. 20 in total chances with 143 and tied for No. 21 in double plays.
  • Bowen has played primarily in left field, though she has played several games as catcher. Overall, she has 95 putouts with four assists and three errors for a .971 fielding percentage. Bowen is tied for No. 19 in putouts and tied for No. 29 in fielding percentage in the CCAC.
  • Robinson has made 57 putouts with just two errors for a .966 fielding percentage while patrolling center field and ranks No. 39 in the CCAC in fielding percentage.
  • Lovato has spent the majority of the season in right field, while also playing some games in left. She has 47 putouts with three assists and an error for a .980 fielding percentage and helped turn one double play. Her fielding percentage ranks No. 20 in the CCAC.
  • After the conclusion of the CCAC Tournament, Saint Xavier had six players named to the All-Tournament Team: Bowen, junior pitcher Alyssa Frey (Sheboygan, Wis./Trinity International/Sheboygan South), Reese, Robinson, Summers and Wright.
