Briana Krapf (Portage, Ind./Portage) competed in her first collegiate 5K, placing and scoring 14
th with a time of 19:31.1 for the Saint Xavier University women's cross country team at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge hosted by Aquinas College (Mich.) at Riverside Park Saturday morning in Grand Rapids, Mich. As a team, the Cougars finished 14
th out of 23 teams in the Women's 5K – White competition with a score of 355. No. 8 Cornerstone University (Mich.) won the meet after recording a score of 102. The top individual in the race was Kassy Ortega from Goshen College (Ind.), who ran a time of 18:43.6.
- Senior Yanira Deana Paninka (Canary Island, Spain/Central Methodist/IES Jandia) ran in her first 5K for SXU, and she established a new personal record (PR) with her time of 19:47.7 to place 32nd overall and 31st in scoring. Deana Paninka bested her old mark by over a minute and twenty seconds while competing for Central Methodist University (Mo.) in 2023.
- Freshman Ava Scheeringa (Hebron, Ind./Hebron) made her 5K debut at the collegiate level, finishing 95th and 85th in scoring, respectively, with a time of 21:12.3.
- Junior Alexia Guzman (Chicago, Ill./Solorio Academy) demolished her previous PR by over three minutes and 10 seconds, clocking in at 21:37.7.
- Junior Isabel Calderon (Orland Park, Ill./Olivet Nazarene/Sandburg) ran in her first collegiate 5K, posting a time of 22:18.3.
- Sophomore Ava Mayer (Chicago, Ill./Marist) smashed her old PR by over two minutes and six seconds, crossing the line at 24:41.0.
- Freshman Jiselle Aldrete (Chicago, Ill./Marist) made her collegiate 5K debut as well, finishing with a time of 24:51.6.
Saint Xavier gears up for the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Championships that take place on Saturday, November 8 at Aspen Ridge Golf Course in Bourbonnais, Ill. The race is scheduled for a 10:30 am start.
