Bobby Habetler (Park Ridge, Ill./Indiana Tech/St. Patrick) placed second overall with 1,164 pins and senior
Spencer Mosher (Ormond Beach, Fla./Concordia/Seabreeze) finished in fourth place with 1,105 pins to earn All-Tournament honors for the Saint Xavier University men's bowling team Friday at the NAIA-BCA Invite in Topeka, Kan. The duo, along with their teammates, put the Cougars in second place out of 18 teams with a pin total of 5,208 after the individual portion of the tournament. On Saturday, SXU competed in the Baker Games format, totaling 4,818 pins for a combined score of 10,026 to earn the No. 2 seed in the eight-team tournament on Sunday.
In the quarterfinals, Saint Xavier defeated No. 9 Midway University (Ky.) in six games of the best-of-seven tournament (203-174, 145-175, 209-182, 175-205, 184-161, 191-172). The Cougars rallied from trailing 3-0 in the semifinals against No. 8 Ottawa University (Kan.) (186-241, 192-206, 167-189) winning the next three games (201-133, 234-190, 200-128) to force a seventh game, however they came up short, losing 176-231. No. 2 seed SCAD Savannah (Ga.) won the tournament, taking down Ottawa in six games (220-183, 225-147, 191-186, 212-217, 164-176, 188-181).
- In five games on Friday, Habetler bowled an average score of 232.8 with a high of 267 pins in game one. He followed that with 224 pins in game two, 204 in game three, 256 in game four and 213 in game five.
- Mosher posted an average score of 221.0 in five games, hitting a high of 247 pins in game two. He also surpassed 200 pins in game one (246), game three (214) and game four (208).
- Senior Daniel Esguerra (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) placed 26th with his total score of 997 pins across five games. He recorded an average mark of 199.4, striking a high of 226 pins in game five. Esguerra also hit 200 or more pins in game one (203) and game three (215).
- Junior Jason Laba (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) finished 60th overall with a score of 756 in four games, averaging 189.0 pins per game. He struck a high of 220 pins in game three.
- Sophomore Joseph Blonski (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) bowled in three games, posting scores of 184 in game one, 190 in game two and 195 in game three.
- Junior Andrew Rossini (Streamwood, Ill./South Elgin) competed in the other two games, striking 220 pins in game four and 211 pins in game five.
- Freshman Dylan Alvarado (Lynwood, Ill./Thornwood) saw action in game five, knocking down 186 pins.
- Junior Tyler Pedersen (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) joined his teammates in the 20 Baker Games on Saturday to help SXU earn the No. 2 seed.
Saint Xavier takes part in the two-day Ebonite Warhawk Open that begins on Saturday, December 6 in Addison, Ill.
