Habetler Advances, No. 9 SXU Men’s Bowling Finishes 12th at ITC

Fort Wayne, Texas – Senior Bobby Habetler (Park Ridge, Ill./Indiana Tech/St. Patrick) became just the second bowler in program history to advance to the Intercollegiate Singles Championships (ISC) National Championships after he tied for third place overall with a total of 1,371 pins last Friday for the No. 9 ranked Saint Xavier University men's bowling team at the ISC Sectionals and Intercollegiate Team Championships (ITC) Sectionals at Cityview Lanes in Fort Worth, Texas this weekend. Habetler moves on to the ISC National Championships next month in Green Bay, Wis. He is just the second Cougar bowler to reach the ISC National Championships, joining current assistant coach Alex Acosta (2018-23) who did so during his freshman campaign in 2018-19.

In the ITC Sectional tournament, SXU was 12th out of 19 teams with a total of 12,411 pins over 64 Baker Games, 32 each on Saturday and Sunday. Wichita State University (Kan.) bowled the highest team score with a total of 13,719 pins to secure an automatic bid to the ITC National Championships, also in Green Bay, Wis. It was the eighth time in team history that Saint Xavier qualified for the ITC Sectionals tournament, missing the cut its first season in 2017-18, while the 2019-20 tournament was canceled because of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
  • Habetler bowled an average score of 228.5 across six games. He surpassed 200 or more pins four times: 249 in game three, a high of 277 pins in game four, 251 in game five and 202 in game six.
  • Sophomore Tavaris Pierson (Sanford, Fla./East River) placed 23rd with a tally of 1,275 pins over six games. He hit an average of 212.5 pins per game. Pierson knocked down a high of 257 pins in game one, along with 206 pins in game two, 224 in game five and 223 in game six.
  • Junior Tyler Pedersen (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) wasn't too far behind his teammate, collecting 1,246 pins to tie for 34th place. He posted an average of 207.7 pins over six games. Pedersen hit a high of 224 pins in game three, also topping 200 pins in game two (216), game four (207) and game five (221).
  • Senior Daniel Esguerra (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) finished 64th overall with 1,198 pins in six games. He struck an average of 199.7 pins per game. Esguerra toppled a high of 238 pins in game five, as well as 203 pins in game one, 206 in game three and 215 in game five.
  • Junior Andrew Rossini (Streamwood, Ill./South Elgin) placed 77th after he collected 1,177 pins with an average of 196.2 in six games. He hit a high of 213 pins in game four, along with 206 in game one, 207 in game two and 200 in game five.
  • Freshman Dylan Alvarado (Lynwood, Ill./Thornwood) tie for 123rd with a total of 1,113 pins in six games. He averaged a mark of 185.5. Alvarado struck a high of 225 pins in game two, with 208 in game four and 213 in game five.
  • Sophomore Joseph Blonski (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) placed 132nd, recording 1,097 pins over six games. He hit an average of 182.8 pins per game with a high of 214 in game three.
  • Senior Spencer Mosher (Ormond Beach, Fla./Concordia/Seabreeze) rounded out the field for SXU, finishing 148th with a mark of 1,053 pins. He toppled an average of 175.5 pins across six games. Mosher logged a high of 210 pins in game six, preceded by 201 in game one and 200 in game five.
No. 9 Saint Xavier travels to Lansing, Mich. to take part in the NAIA Men's Bowling National Championships that begin on Thursday, March 19. The Cougars square off with University of St. Francis (Ill.) in the Red Bracket as the No. 10 seed in the double-elimination tournament.
