INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 8 ranked Saint Xavier University men's bowling wrapped up regular season competition with a 21
st place finish out of a field of 78 teams at the 57
th Annual Columbia 300 Hoosier Classic at Western Bowl in Indianapolis, Ind. this weekend. After the individual portion of the tournament on Saturday, the Cougars were 39
th overall with 4,820 pins. SXU had a strong day on Sunday, collecting 2,897 pins across 15 Baker Games, climbing 18 spots for a total of 7,717 pins. Webber International University (Fla.) came out of the eight-team tournament championship bracket the winner, entering as the No. 8 seed. The Warriors defeated No. 6 Newman University (Kan.) in the finals.
- Saint Xavier featured a five-bowler rotation for the Baker Games on Sunday: senior Daniel Esguerra (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech), senior Spencer Mosher (Ormond Beach, Fla./Concordia/Seabreeze), junior Tyler Pedersen (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest), sophomore Joseph Blonski (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) and sophomore Tavaris Pierson (Sanford, Fla./East River).
- The quintet bowled an average score of 193.1 in 15 Baker Games, topping 200 or more pins five times. They hit 201 pins in game two, 212 pins in game six, 213 pins in game 12, a high of 239 pins in game 14 and finishing the day with 235 pins in game 15.
- Blonski was the top individual for the Cougars on Saturday, striking 1,017 pins to tie for 100th overall out of 536 competitors with an average of 203.4 in five games. He hit a high of 238 pins in game four, along with 206 pins in game one and 211 pins in game two.
- Mosher was just behind his teammate, collecting 1,015 pins for an average of 203.0 in five games. He struck a high of 222 pins in game two, followed by 216 pins in game three and 213 pins in game four.
- Pierson bowled in all five games, totaling 977 pins, averaging a score of 195.4. He hit a high of 222 pins in game four, along with 208 pins in game five.
- Esguerra toppled 922 pins for an average of 184.4 in five games. He came away with a high of 196 pins in game three.
- Pedersen saw action in three games, hitting 176 pins in game one, 169 in game two and 211 in game five.
- Junior Andrew Rossini (Streamwood, Ill./South Elgin) bowled in games three and four, collecting 173 pins and 160, respectively.
No. 8 Saint Xavier gears up for postseason play, awaiting their assignment for the two-day ITC Sectionals that begin on Saturday, March 14.
