Alaina Peetz (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for the Saint Xavier University women's basketball team (8-4, 5-1 CCAC) when the awards were announced by the league office Tuesday morning. Peetz helped the Cougars go 1-1 on the week, averaging 10.5 rebounds per game, 2.0 steals per game and 1.5 blocks per game. It is the first CCAC Player of the Week award, offensive or defensive, for SXU this season.
- In a 69-40 victory over Aquinas College (Mich.) last Wednesday, Peetz pulled down 12 rebounds (eight defensive) with three steals and a pair of blocks.
- She added nine rebounds (eight defensive), a blocked shot and a steal in a 62-58 setback to No. 17 University of St. Francis (Ill.) in conference play.
- Through 12 games this season, Peetz has 12 starts while averaging a team-high tying 32.9 minutes per game. She leads Saint Xavier with 117 rebounds for an average of 9.8 per contest, a team-best 25 steals and a team-leading 22 blocks. Peetz in shooting 48.4 percent (30-for-62) from the field and is shooting at a 75.0 percent clip (18-for-24) from the free-throw line. She is third on the team with 19 assists.
- Peetz leads the CCAC in total blocks, is No. 2 in total rebounds, No. 2 in defensive rebounds with 87, No. 3 in rebounds per game and No. 5 in total steals.
Saint Xavier (8-4/5-0 CCAC) travels to Nashville, Tenn. to take on Fisk University (Tenn.) in non-conference action on Thursday, December 18. The game is slated for a 5:30 start.
