LAS VEGAS – The Saint Xavier University women's bowling team made program history, posting its best finish at the Intercollegiate Team Championships National Tournament after finishing in third place at South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas, Nev. Friday evening. The tournament started on Thursday with 24 Baker Games to establish the rankings for the 16-team double-elimination tournament divided into two eight-team brackets. The Cougars totaled 4,637 pins, placing 12
th and being placed in the Red bracket.
- SXU featured seven bowlers compete in the tournament: fifth-year senior Barbara Lunsford (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West), senior Monica Darrow (Elgin, Ill./South Elgin), senior Megan Gillson (Minooka, Ill./Minooka Community), junior Emma Zalud (Bolingbrook, Ill./Downers Grove South), sophomore Breanna Pimentel (Northlake, Ill./West Leyden), freshman Jade Gabor (Newark, Ohio/Newark) and freshman Elizabeth Voss (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West).
- SXU drew No. 5 Stephen F. Austin University (Texas) in the first round, earning a 4-1 victory.
- Saint Xavier advanced to the second round of the winner's bracket, where they defeated No. 13 Mount St. Mary's University (Md.), 4-0.
- They resumed competition Friday morning with a matchup against No. 1 Jacksonville State University (Ala.), losing 4-2.
- The Cougars stayed alive in the tournament by taking out Mount St. Mary's in the elimination bracket by a 4-2 decision.
- SXU faced Jacksonville State with a chance to move on to the finals, however the Gamecocks won the best-of-seven contest, 4-0, to cap the 2024-25 season for Saint Xavier.
- JSU won the tournament championship by defeating Mount Mercy University (Iowa), 3-0.
