SXU Women’s Bowling Starts Season at Golden Eagle Invite

Rockford, Ill. – Sophomore Jade Gabor (Newark, Ohio/Newark) just missed placing in the Top 10 by three pins, collecting 893 across five games, to place 11th overall for the Saint Xavier University women's bowling team in the individual portion of the two-day 7th annual Hammer Golden Eagle Invite hosted by Rock Valley College (Ill.) on Saturday. After 16 Baker Games on Sunday, the Cougars finished sixth out of 15 teams, totaling 6,780 pins. They missed the cut for the four-time tournament championships bracket in their 2025-26 season opening tournament by only 228 pins. No. 3 seed St. Ambrose University (Iowa) took home the team title after they defeated No. 1 seed Judson University (Ill.) in four games (143-186, 220-168, 167-147, 221-191).
  • For the Baker Games, SXU used a five-player lineup featuring: senior Emma Zalud (Bolingbrook, Ill./Downers Grove South), junior Abigail Miller (Lockport, Ill./Joliet JC/Lockport Township), junior Breanna Pimentel (Northlake, Ill./West Leyden), Gabor and freshman Brianna Merner (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein)
  • Saint Xavier averaged 163.6 pins in the 16 Baker Games on Sunday with a high of 199 pins in game one.
  • On Saturday, Gabor averaged 178.6 pins with a high of 205 in game two.
  • Pimentel was 22nd overall with a total of 845 pins in five games. She averaged 169.0 pins with a high of 183 in game five.
  • Merner, making her collegiate debut, was just behind her teammate, placing 23rd with 839 pins. She recorded an average of 167.8 pins in five games, toppling a high of 181 pins in game four.
  • Sophomore Elizabeth Voss (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) finished 27th with a five-game score of 832 pins. She averaged 166.4 pins across five games with a high of 182 in game four.
  • Zalud tallied 799 pins in five games to finish 37th overall. She knocked down an average of 159.8 pins, and striking a high of 182 in game one.
  • Miller, competing in her first tournament as a Cougar, was 39th after collecting 786 pins across five games. She bowled an average of 157.2, hitting a high of 184 pins in game four.
