LAS VEGAS – The No. 23 ranked Saint Xavier University women's bowling team took part in the two-day Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational on December 18 and 19, followed by the two-day Collegiate Shoot-Out Tournament on December 20 and 21 with both tournaments being held at the South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas, Nev. Sophomore
Jade Gabor (Newark, Ohio/Newark) had a Top 20 finish, placing 18
th, at the Glenn Carlson Invite with a total of 1,564 pins in eight games for an average of 195.5 per game. She hit a high of 242 pins in game one, along with 203 pins in game two and 207 in game seven. The Cougars just missed the cut for the 16-team tournament by 63 pins, collecting 7,155 pins after eight Baker Games on Friday. No. 5 seeded Milligan University (Tenn.) won the tournament after they defeated No. 7 University of Northwestern Ohio 3-1 (206-197, 241-181, 214-227, 244-181) in the best-of-five contest.
Over the weekend at the Collegiate Shoot-Out, sophomore
Elizabeth Voss (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) was the top bowler for SXU with a 59
th place total of 899 pins in five games for an average of 179.8 in the individual portion on Saturday. She knocked down a high of 201 pins in game three. Saint Xavier came away with 7,316 pins after 16 Baker Games on Sunday, missing the cut for the eight-team tournament by 200 pins. No. 8 seed Northwestern Ohio won the tournament, posting the highest score in their four-team semifinal bracket in four Baker Games with 728 pins. In the four-team finals, UNOH won with 815 pins after four Baker Games.
Glenn Carlson Invite:
- Junior Breanna Pimentel (Northlake, Ill./West Leyden) placed 27th with 1,528 pins for an average of 191.0 in eight games. She hit a high of 225 pins in game four, as well as 215 pins in game three, 213 pins in game seven and 202 pins in game eight.
- Freshman Brianna Merner (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) finished 36th overall, striking 1,506 pins across eight games for an average of 188.3. She recorded a high of 213 pins in game four.
- Junior Abigail Miller (Lockport, Ill./Joliet JC/Lockport Township) tallied 1,279 pins over eight games for an average of 159.9. She struck a high of 200 pins in game three.
- Senior Emma Zalud (Bolingbrook, Ill./Downers Grove South) bowled in five games, collecting 759 pins for an average of 151.8 She hit a high of 181 in game eight.
- Voss saw action in three games, hitting 176 pins in game three, 165 in game four and a high of 178 in game five.
Collegiate Shoot-Out:
- Merner totaled 893 pins for an average of 178.6 in five games to finish 65th overall. She hit a high of 204 pins in game four.
- Pimentel bowled in all five games, collecting 835 pins with an average of 167.0. She posted a high of 185 pins in game five.
- Zalud knocked down 637 pins in the first four games, averaging a score of 159.3. She hit a high of 186 pins in game two.
- Gabor saw action in games three-five, coming away with 561 pins for an average of 187.0 She hit 171 pins in game three, 189 in game four and a high of 201 in game five.
- Miller bookended her appearance, hitting 155 pins in game one and a high of 186 in game five.
- Freshman Ashley Baeza (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) competed in game two, striking 135 pins.
No. 23 Saint Xavier returns to action in the New Year when they participate in the two-day Kegel/ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic that begins on Saturday, January 17 at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Ill.
