SXU Women’s Bowling Places Ninth at Leatherneck Classic

Rockford, Ill. – The Saint Xavier University women's bowling team placed ninth out of 28 teams at the 25th Annual Leatherneck Classic held at Cherry Bowl in Rockford, Ill. over the weekend. The Cougars were in 10th place after the individual portion of the tournament on Saturday with a total of 4,385 pins. After 16 Baker Games on Sunday, SXU improved its position by moving up to ninth with 7,206 pins only missing the cut for the eight-team tournament championship by two pins. No. 3 seed Mount Mercy University (Iowa) won the tournament by defeating No. 5 Indiana Tech University in four games (237-165, 191-144, 179-210, 200-169).
  • Junior Abigail Miller (Lockport, Ill./Joliet JC/Lockport Township) came away with the highest score for Saint Xavier, collecting 891 pins over five games for an average of 178.2 to place 47th overall. She hit a high of 201 pins in game three.
  • Freshman Brianna Merner (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) was right behind her teammate, totaling 889 pins in five games with an average of 177.8. She knocked down a high of 216 pins in game five for a 49th place finish.
  • Junior Breanna Pimentel (Northlake, Ill./West Leyden) posted a score of 843 pins for an average of 168.6 in five games. She had a high of 189 pins in game five.
  • Senior Emma Zalud (Bolingbrook, Ill./Downers Grove South) finished only one pin behind her teammate, with 842. She averaged 168.4 pins per game with a high of 200 in game four.
  • Sophomore Jade Gabor (Newark, Ohio/Newark) bowled in three games, logging a total of 575 pins for an average of 191.7. She struck a high of 254 pins in game one.
  • Sophomore Elizabeth Voss (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) competed in two games, hitting 189 pins in game four and 156 pins in game five.
Saint Xavier travels to Topeka, Kan. to take part in the NAIA-BCA Invitational I on Friday, November 14. They also will bowl in the NAIA-BCA Invitational II on Saturday and Sunday, also in Topeka, Kan.
