SXU Women’s Track & Field Places Third at CCAC Championships

Joliet, Ill. – The Saint Xavier University women's track and field team finished in third place out of eight teams with 133 points, their third-highest point total in program history and just the fifth time that they scored over 100 points at any meet, at the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Outdoor Championships this weekend hosted by University of St. Francis (Ill.) at Joliet Memorial Stadium in Joliet, Ill. The Cougars had 21 student-athletes earn All-CCAC with sophomore Amariah Scott (Chicago, Ill./Thornton Township) establishing a new personal record after recording a throw of 42.35m to claim first-place honors in the Hammer. She becomes just the third thrower in team history to win the event.

Senior Lexi Clarke (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet JC/Plainfield South) finished second in the 800m with a time of 2:19.25. Clarke was a part of the 4x400 Relay Team that placed second, and posting the third-fastest time in team history, of 4:01.21, along with junior Emerson Colins (New Lenox, Ill./St. Francis/Lincoln-Way West), junior Yanira Deana Paninka (Canary Island, Spain/Central Methodist/IES Jandia) and senior Olivia Mathis (Akron, Ohio/Lourdes/St Vincent-St. Mary). Deana Paninka ran her second-best and the second-quickest time in team history with her second-place draw in the 400m Hurdles at 1:04.03.

The 4x100 Relay Team of Clarke, Colins, Deana Paninka and sophomore Amaya Rique (St. Louis, Mo./Mineral Area/Seckman) ran the sixth-best time in school history with their third-place time of 49.24 seconds. The 4x800 Relay Team of, senior Kristin Booker (St. Louis, Mo./Cardinal Ritter), Clarke, sophomore Alexia Guzman (Chicago, Ill./Solorio Academy) and junior Emma Karczewski (Chicago, Ill./Marist) claimed third place with their time of 10:08.97 on Friday. On Saturday, Colins tied for the fifth-best time in SXU history and her fourth-best time in the 100m when she crossed the line in third place at 12.19 seconds. Mathis took third in the 800m, clocking in at 2:22.64.

Also on Friday, junior Katie DeHaan (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) set a new Saint Xavier record in the Javelin with her third-place throw of 35.90m, breaking the record of 35.85m held by her teammate junior Jamie Sierocki (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) set on April 7, 2023. Freshman Mariah James (Alsip, Ill./Shepard) placed third in the Discus, recording her second-best career throw at 36.66m. James also finished third in the Hammer, posting her second-best career distance at 39.96m. Sierocki logged her third-best career throw and the third-best in program history in the Shot Put, placing third at 12.48m.
  • In the preliminaries of the 100m, Colins ran the fastest time at 12.23 seconds to qualify, while Rique ran a season-best time of 12.55 seconds. Rique finished eighth in the finals at 12.86 seconds. Also in the prelims, sophomore Rashiya Warfield (Lansing, Ill./T.F. South) ran her second-quickest career time at 13.33 seconds, while freshman Sophia Thomas (Highland, Ill./Highland) set a new PR for the second meet in a row at 14.06 seconds.
  • Rique registered the second-fastest time in school history and logged a PR of 25.52 second in the finals of the 200m to place fifth. She qualified with a then-PR of 24.54 seconds in the prelims. Colins qualified as well with a mark of 25.87 seconds and she finished seventh at 25.86 seconds. Warfield ran her second-best career time in the prelims at 27.76 seconds, while Thomas clocked in at 29.31 seconds.
  • In the 400m, Rique secured another PR as she finished sixth overall with a time of 1:01.60, as did Thomas with her time of 1:09.08.
  • Booker placed sixth in the 800m, coming away with her second-best time of the season at 2:27.95, so did Karczewski with a mark of 2:48.39.
  • Mathis made her SXU debut in the 1500, coming in fifth place at 4:49.08. Guzman took nearly four seconds off of her previous PR, clocking in at 5:30.29. Freshman Ava Mayer (Chicago, Ill./Marist) PR'd for the second consecutive meet, taking almost eight seconds off her old mark at 5:58.79.
  • In the 100m Hurdles, Warfield qualified for the finals with a time of 15.85 seconds. She broke the school record in the finals, crossing at 15.03 seconds, breaking the record set last season at the same meet by former standout Lana Musa (2020-24).
  • Junior Kenia Salgado (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) ran a season-best time in the 400m Hurdles, and her third-best career time, for the second week in a row, crossing at 1:18.06.
  • Colins made her debut for the Cougars in the Long Jump, taking sixth with a distance of 5.14m. Thomas booked her second-best effort of the season at 4.37m.
  • In the Shot Put, senior Lana Krohe (Streator, Ill./Olivet Nazarene/Streator) finished fourth overall with the fifth-best distance in team history and a PR of 12.33m. DeHaan PR'd as well, coming away with a throw of 11.51m to take sixth. Scott recorded a season-best toss of 11.35 for an eighth-place draw, while James was ninth overall at 11.02m.
  • Sierocki tallied her second-best throw of the season in the Discus, placing fifth at 34.81m. Krohe posted a season-best mark of 30.55m, just ahead of DeHaan's toss of 30.18m
  • Also competing in the Hammer, Sierocki logged her second-best throw of the year at 39.28m to take fifth. DeHaan topped her old PR by over two meters with her sixth-place throw of 37.71m, while Krohe also established a new PR as a Cougar at 37.38m for a seventh-place finish.
  • Sierocki posted the third-best throw in team history in the Javelin with her fifth-place distance of 35.64m.
Saint Xavier returns to Joliet Memorial Stadium to compete in the two-day USF Fighting Chance Invite that begins on Friday, May 9 in Joliet, Ill.
