John Simecek (Twinsburg, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Baseball Player of the Week for the Saint Xavier University baseball team (7-5/0-0 CCAC) when the awards were announced by the league office Tuesday morning. Simecek helped the Cougars earn a four-game series sweep over University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in St. Louis (Mo.). He finished the series with a slash line of .615/.667/.846 as he had eight hits in 13 at-bats with nine runs scored, seven stolen bases, three RBI, a double, a triple and a walk. It is his first CCAC Player of the Week win in his time with SXU.
- Simecek had three hits in three at-bats with three stolen bases and two runs in game one last Friday, a 7-2 Saint Xavier victory. In the second game, he scored a run with a steal in an 8-0 Cougar win.
- On Sunday in game one, Simecek was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a stolen base. He wrapped up the series with a 3-for-3 effort in game two, finishing a home run shy of the cycle, driving in three runs, stealing two bases and drawing a walk.
- Defensively in the series, Simecek had a perfect fielding percentage on 25 chances (24 putouts and one assist) and he helped turn one double play.
- In 11 games with nine starts, Simecek leads SXU with a .452 batting average (14-for-31) with 10 runs scored, eight stolen bases on nine attempts, six RBI, five walks, four doubles and a triple.
Saint Xavier (7-5/0-0 CCAC) is scheduled for a three-game series with Missouri Valley College, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday, February 21. Game one is slated for a 12:00 pm first pitch.
