CHICAGO – The No. 2 ranked Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team (3-2/0-0 CCAC) swept the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Volleyball Player of the Week awards when they were announced by the league office Tuesday morning. Junior outside hitter
Caydann Cox (Helena, Mont./Jamestown/Jamestown) was named CCAC Attacker of the Week, junior setter
Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) earned CCAC Setter of the Week and senior libero
Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) claimed CCAC Defender of the Week. Daniels repeats as the Setter of the Week.
- The trio helped the Cougars come away with a pair of NAIA Top 10 victories last week as they bested No. 3 St. Thomas University (Fla.) in four sets Thursday evening in their home opener at the Shannon Center. SXU swept No. 7 Lawrence Tech University (Mich.) Saturday evening.
- Cox totaled 22 kills in a fine .356 attack percentage (22-6-45) with seven blocks (three solos), five digs, an assist and a service ace. He had eight kills, four blocks (three solos) and four digs in the win over the Bobcats. Cox posted a match-best 14 kills on a .500 attack percentage (14-3-22) with three more blocks in the triumph over the Blue Devils.
- Daniels collected 65 assists for an average of 9.57 per set in seven sets, along with five blocks (one solo), four kills and a pair of aces. He handed out 33 assists with two blocks (one solo), two kill and a service ace against STU. Daniels capped the week with 34 assists, three blocks, two blocks and an ace vs. LTU.
- Velez came away with 21 digs, a reception percentage of .968 (31-for-32), five assists and two services aces. He had eight digs and three assists in the triumph over St. Thomas. Velez finished with a match-leading 13 digs, as well as two aces and two assists in the win against Lawrence Tech.
No. 2 Saint Xavier (3-2/0-0 CCAC) welcome No. 11 Grand View University (Iowa) to the Shannon Center on Friday, February 6. The NAIA Top 15 match-up is set for a 7:00 pm first-serve.
