CHICAGO – For the third time this season, junior pitcher
Lily Strand (Evergreen Park, Ill./Saint Louis/Evergreen Park) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the Saint Xavier University softball team (26-9/15-0 CCAC) when the awards were announced by the league office Tuesday morning. Strand made three starts in the circle, going 3-0 with 15 strikeouts and an earned run average (ERA) of 0.58 in 12.0 innings. She combined to throw her first collegiate no-hitter, along with junior pitcher
Hailey Wesner (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) in a 16-0 victory in game one of a doubleheader vs. Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) last Friday. Strand also won CCAC Pitcher of the Week on February 17 and March 24.
- In a 15-1 victory over Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in Bourbonnais, Ill. last Tuesday, she threw 6.0 innings with three hits, one earned run, two walks and eight strikeouts. Her efforts help head coach Erin Mollohan earn her 300th career victory for the Cougars.
- Strand worked 3.0 innings with two walks and five strikeouts before giving way to Wesner in the win over the Crimson Wave.
- She capped the week with two walks, two strikeouts and no hits allowed in 3.0 innings as SXU came away with a 14-1 triumph over CCSJ.
- Through 22 appearances and 19 starts this year, Strand sports a 14-5 record with a 2.58 ERA in 108.2 innings. She has tossed 11 complete games with two shutouts, 95 strikeouts and a save. Strand leads the CCAC in appearances, starts, wins, complete games and strikeouts.
Saint Xavier (26-9/15-0 CCAC) begins a three-game series with Mount Mary University (Wis.) on Friday, April 10. The CCAC contest is scheduled for a 2:00 pm start. The series shifts to Milwaukee, Wis. with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 pm on Saturday, April 11.
