University Park, Ill. – The Saint Xavier University men's golf team took home first-place honors after shooting a team score of 294 (+), nine strokes ahead of host Governors State University (Ill.) Thursday afternoon at the GSU Jaguar Fall Invite at University Park Golf Course in University Park, Ill. The Cougars also had a B squad that placed fourth out of five teams with a score of 317 (+). The A team had four of its five players finish in the Top 5 with junior
Roman Johnson (Lone Rock, Wis./Highland/Richland Center) finishing in third place with an even-par score of 72. Julio Roman for Governors State shot the lowest individual score at 70 (-2).
- Junior Talon Hawk (Athens, Ohio/Morro Bay) tied for fifth overall with an 18-hole score of 74 (+2).
- Junior Nathan Kwiatkowski (Lockport, Ill./DuPage/Lockport Township) shot a round of 74 (+2) as well.
- Senior Dan Stood (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) joined his teammates shooting a score of 74 (+2).
- Freshman Stone Hawk (Athens, Ohio/Morro Bay) was only two shots behind the rest of the A group at 76 (+4) to place ninth.
- Freshman Conor Brandt (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) carded a round of 77 (+5) to be the sixth SXU golfer to finish in the Top 10 at 10th.
- Sophomore Ryne Shields (Oak Lawn, Ill./Brother Rice) completed the 18-hole loop with a score of 79 (+7) for a three-way tie for 12th place.
- Sophomore Thor Hock (Palos Park, Ill./Brother Rice) shot a score of 80 (+8) for a 15th place draw.
- Senior Joey Glennon (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) tallied a score of 81 (+9) with two other golfers to tie for 16th.
- Fifth-year senior Jack Bullington (Evergreen Park, Ill./Trinity Christian/Marist) completed the tournament with a round of 88 (+16) for a tie for 25th overall.
Saint Xavier travels to Silvis, Ill. to take part in the two-day NAIA Midwest Invite hosted by St. Ambrose University (Iowa). The tournament begins on Monday, September 28 at TPC Deere Run.
