Fayette, Mo. – The Saint Xavier University women's track & field team took part in the Central Methodist University Invitational this weekend in Fayette, Mo. in their first outdoor competition this season. No team scores were recorded. Senior
Delilah Delgado (East Chicago, Ind./Calumet St. Joseph/East Chicago Central) finished in first place in the 1500m with a time of 5:07.06, more than four seconds faster than the runner-up. She became just the fourth Saint Xavier runner to ever win the event and the first since SXU Hall-of-Famer Rachael Dean (2010-13) was first at the Aquinas College (Mich.) Twilight on May 8, 2013.
Junior Madison Simpson (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) broke her own school record in the Shot Put with a throw of 11.63m and was seventh overall. Sophomore Precious Agugua (Frisco, Texas/Hertiage) shattered the program record by almost five meters in the Discus with a distance of 41.33m to place second, the highest ever finish for any Cougar in the event. She also set the Saint Xavier record in the Hammer with a distance of 47.13m, topping the old mark set by Simpson last season by almost six meters, to finish in fifth place. Freshman Jamie Sierocki (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East), making her outdoor debut, also set a school record in the Javelin with a throw of 33.87m, nearly three meters better than the old mark, to finish third.
- Sophomore Jamaya Jenkins (Chicago, Ill./South Shore International) set a new personal record (PR) in the 100m with a time of 12.54 seconds to finish in seventh place. Freshman Naomi Cargo (Chicago, Ill./Curie) made her outdoor debut and crossed the line at 12.86 seconds. Freshman Shayla Lobbins (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower), also making her outdoor debut, clocked in at 13.79 seconds.
- Cargo ran in the 200m and recorded a time of 27.16 seconds, freshman Tajana Sims (Ford Heights, Ill./Bloom Trail) made her first outdoor appearance and registered a mark of 27.41 seconds and Jenkins finished at 27.73 seconds. Freshman Paris Brown (Lynwood, Ill./T.F. South) ran a time of 28.27 seconds in her first outdoor competition, Lobbins posted a time of 28.93 seconds and fellow freshman Nayilea Bejarano (Posen, Ill./Eisenhower) clocked in at 29.99 second in her outdoor debut.
- Racing in the 400m, senior Nayely Martinez (Chicago, Ill./Maria) established a new PR with a time of 1:04.89 and placed 11th and Delgado was 12th overall with a time of 1:05.65.
- Senior Ailyn Gallardo (Alsip, Ill./Governors State/Saint Xavier/Eisenhower) had the fastest time for SXU in the 800m with a mark of 2:35.59, running in the event for the first time in her career.
- Also running in the 1500m, Martinez crossed the line at 5:39.60, topping her old PR set a season ago at the same meet.
- Freshman Emma Karczewski (Chicago, Ill./Marist), making her outdoor debut, placed 10th in the 5000m with a time of 21:16.68 and freshman Isabella Alatorre (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) was 11th overall with a mark of 21:41.08, also competing in her first outdoor meet.
- Senior Daniella Nino (Chicago, Ill./Calumet St. Joseph/De La Salle) ran in the 10,000m for the first time in her collegiate career and was second with a time of 43:47.27.
- Junior Victoria Dolbniak (Lyons, Ill./Morton West) competed in the 400m Hurdles, finishing sixth overall with a time of 1:14.50, while freshman Kenia Salgado (Cicero, Ill./Morton East), in her outdoor debut, posted a time of 1:17.44.
- The 4x800 Relay team of Delgado, Gallardo, Martinez & Dolbniak placed second with a time of 10:03.64.
- Sophomore Ambyer Maree Derrick (Waukegan, Ill/Waukegan) recorded her second-best outdoor mark in the High Jump at 1.50m.
- Sims finished in third place in the Long Jump with a distance of 5.05m, Brown recorded a mark of 4.74m and Bejarano had a jump of 3.72m.
- In the Triple Jump, Sims was eighth overall with a distance of 9.81m.
- Junior Layla Alexander (Chicago, Ill./Phoenix Military Academy) posted the eighth best throw in program history in the Shot Put and set a new PR with a mark of 10.90m to place 12th. Sierocki was 16th with a toss of 10.69m, while freshman Katie DeHaan (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) recorded a throw of 9.84 in her first outdoor meet.
- Also competing in the Discus, Sierocki had a toss of 32.40m, the eighth best in team history. Junior Jersey Panock (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) recorded a mark of 30.44m. DeHaan had a throw of 29.39m, while Simpson registered a toss of 27.75m.
- Simpson set a new PR and had the second-best toss in program history in the Hammer with a mark of 43.89m to finish sixth overall. Alexander surpassed her previous PR by almost five meters with a throw of 39.33m, Panock had a mark of 35.91m and Sierocki checked in with a toss of 34.05m.
- DeHaan also competed in the Javelin and had a toss of 27.38m and was 11th overall, while Panock was 13th with her throw of 22.72m.
Saint Xavier travels to Fort Wayne, Ind. to compete in the Warrior Open hosted by Indiana Institute of Technology on Friday, April 7.
