Clarke & Mathis Earn All-CCAC for SXU at CCAC Championships

Bettendorf, Iowa – Senior Lexi Clarke (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet JC/Plainfield South) posted the third-fastest time in program history in any 6K race, placing sixth with a time of 22:55.3 to establish a new personal record (PR), and senior Olivia Mathis (Akron, Ohio/Lourdes/St. Vincent-St. Mary) ran her third-best career time at of 23:11.2 to finish ninth overall for the Saint Xavier University women's cross country team at the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Cross Country Championships hosted by St. Ambrose University (Iowa) Saturday morning at Crow Creek Park in Bettendorf, Iowa. As a team, SXU placed sixth out of eight teams with 117 points.

With their Top 10 finishes, Clarke & Mathis earn All-CCAC, the second straight season that Mathis earned All-CCAC. The duo also qualified for the NAIA Women's Cross Country 6K National Championships, as individuals, that takes place on Saturday, November 16 in Columbia, Mo. No. 19 ranked Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) won the team title with 33 points ahead of runner-up and No. 17 University of St. Francis, who had 67 points. Aleigha Garrison for ONU was the women's CCAC champion, placing first with a time of 22:09.0.
  • Junior Yanira Deana Paninka (Canary Island, Spain/Central Methodist/IES Jandia) recorded her third-fastest time of the season in the 6K and was 38th overall with a time of 25:13.8.
  • Junior Emma Karczewski (Chicago, Ill./Marist) set a new PR by running four seconds quicker than her previous best with a time of 25:33.3 to place 43rd.
  • Junior Kenia Salgado (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) also PR'd with her time of 25:44.3, placing 45th.
  • Junior Isabella Alatorre (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) topped her old PR by almost eight seconds, clocking in at 26:06.5 and she finished 48th overall.
  • Senior Sabeen Barakat (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) posted her second-best career time in the 6K, crossing the line at 26:50.5 and was 56th.
  • Sophomore Alexia Guzman (Chicago, Ill./Solorio Academy) registered her second-best career time as well with a time of 27:03.1 to place 58th.
  • Senior Kristin Booker (St. Louis, Mo./Cardinal Ritter) established a new PR by almost two seconds with her mark of 27:46.5 and finished 66th.
  • Freshman Ava Mayer (Chicago, Ill./Marist) shaved almost a minute off her previous PR, running a time of 28:19.3 to finish 68th overall.
Clarke and Mathis will compete at the NAIA Women's Cross Country National Championships on Saturday, November 16. The 6K race takes place at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Mo. at 11:30 am.
