Lexi Clarke (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet JC/Plainfield South) hit the NAIA 'B' Standard in the 1000m with a personal record (PR) time of 2:59.83, the second-fastest in school history, and she claimed first-place in the process, while junior
Alanna Rodriguez also hit the NAIA 'B' Standard with her second place finish in the 3000m Race Walk of 18:05.41 to help the Saint Xavier University women's track & field team make program history as the Cougars finished first overall with a team score of 138 points at the St. Ambrose University (Iowa) Finals Week Invitational Saturday afternoon in Davenport, Iowa. It is the first time since SXU started competing in track & field in 2009-10 that they have won a meet, and their 138 points are the third-most all-time in a meet behind a 140-point performance in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Indoor Championships also in Davenport, Iowa on February 18, 2023, and 151 points at the CCAC Indoor Championships last year in Bourbonnais, Ill. on February 17, 2024.
- Junior Emerson Colins (New Lenox, Ill./St. Francis/Lincoln-Way West) tied her own program record in the finals of the 60m Dash with a first-place time of 7.75 seconds, a mark she set at the CCAC Championships last season. She also had the quickest time in the preliminaries at 7.83 seconds, tied for the seventh-fastest in team history. Junior Naomi Cargo (Chicago, Ill./Curie) placed third in the finals at 8.05 seconds, her third-fastest career time, after a crossing at 8.19 seconds in the prelims. Senior Jamaya Jenkins (Chicago, Ill./South Shore International) made her season debut, taking fourth in the finals, with a time of 8.10 seconds. She recorded a time of 8.17 seconds in the prelims. Sophomore Rashiya Warfield (Lansing, Ill./T.F. South), racing in the event for the first time in her collegiate career, was eighth overall with a mark of 8.47 seconds and qualified for the finals with a time of 8.43 seconds. Junior Martha Tidwell (Chicago, Ill./Ogden International) just missed the cut, finishing behind Warfield at 8.47 seconds, while making her debut in the race. Also in the prelims, junior Nayilea Bejarano (Posen, Ill./Eisenhower) registered her second-best career time at 8.88 seconds, while freshman Sophia Thomas (Highland, Ill./Highland) made her debut in the event and clocked in at 8.92 seconds.
- Colins broke another school record in the 200m, topping the mark she set last week, with her second-place time of 26.10 seconds. Jenkins placed fourth and earned six points for SXU with a time of 26.94 seconds for her third-best career time. Cargo wasn't too far behind, crossing the line at 27.00 seconds, besting her PR set last week, to collect five points after placing fifth. Tidwell set a new PR by nearly half a second, checking in with a time of 28.09, just ahead of Warfield's second-fastest career time of 28.14 seconds.
- Sophomore Amaya Rique (St. Louis, Mo./Mineral Area/Seckman) finished second in the 600m, claiming eight points, with a time of 1:42.34. Senior Kristin Booker (St. Louis, Mo./Cardinal Ritter) took third with a time of 1:44.06 and earning six points.
- Joining Clarke in the 1000m, senior Olivia Mathis (Akron, Ohio/Lourdes/St Vincent-St. Mary) tallied eight points with her second-place time of 3:02.51, the second-best of her time with the Cougars.
- Warfield picked up eight points in the finals of the 60m Hurdles after she crossed the finish line with new PR of 9.52 seconds. She qualified in the prelims with a mark of 9.80 seconds.
- The 4x400 Relay squad of Rique, Tidwell, Booker and Cargo took third after they recorded a time of 4:21.09 seconds and earning six points.
- Thomas set a PR in the Long Jump, placing third with a distance of 4.80m and collecting six points. Bejarano also PR'd, recording her best jump in an Indoor meet with a mark of 4.48m and taking seventh-place.
- In the Shot Put, junior Jamie Sierocki (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) posted the second-best throw of her career and the fourth-best at Saint Xavier with a second-place distance of 12.12m. Sophomore Amariah Scott (Chicago, Ill./Thornton Township) established a new PR with a toss of 11.01m and she was fourth overall. Freshman Mariah James (Alsip, Ill./Shepard) finished in fifth-place with a mark of 10.78m.
- Sierocki recorded her second-best career toss in the Weight Throw after she took second with a distance of 12.88m. Scott hit another PR, placing third just behind her teammate with a mark of 12.84m. James also PR'd, improving on her first collegiate appearance a week prior, with a fifth-place throw of 12.79m.
Saint Xavier is scheduled to return to Davenport, Iowa next month to compete in the St. Ambrose Fighting Bee Invite that begins on Friday, January 24.
