Jaber Helps SXU Place Second at Aurora Grand Prix

CHICAGO – Redshirt sophomore Karam Jaber (Palos Heights, Ill./Shepard) established a new personal record (PR) in the 60m Hurdles, posting the fastest time at 8.72 seconds, to earn 10 points as the Saint Xavier University men's track & field team finished second out of 16 teams with 93 points at the Aurora University (Ill.) Grand Prix. The majority of the events were held at Gately Stadium, while the throwing events took place at University of Chicago (Ill.). Jaber becomes just the fourth sprinter in program history to win the 60m Hurdles. UChicago won the meet, scoring 113 points.
  • Senior Lendale Franklin (Chicago, Ill./Roosevelt/Argo Community) placed second in the 60m Dash with a time of 6.97 seconds to claim eight points. Junior Myles Money (Crete, Ill./Marian Catholic), making his season debut, recorded a time of 7.19 seconds. Sophomore Jamaurien Thomas (Chicago, Ill./Ogden International) crossed the finish line at 7.26 seconds. Junior Charlie Zufan (Orland Hill, Ill./Andrew) made his season debut in the event and he registered a time of 7.44 seconds. Sophomore Teddy Garman (Bradley, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) also made his season debut, recording a time of 7.74 seconds.
  • Junior Sean Harris (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) ran the sixth-fastest time in program history in the 200m, after he finished sixth overall at 22.27 seconds. Franklin placed eighth with the seventh-best time for a Cougar runner, and a new PR, at 22.38 seconds. Senior Gavin Dudley (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) set a new PR as well with his time of 23.61 seconds.
  • In the 400m, Zufan ran his fastest time of the season and the fourth-best in team history with an eighth-place time of 50.25 seconds. Money finished ninth with a new PR of 50.40 seconds, the fifth-fastest mark by an SXU runner all-time. Dudley posted his second-best career time at 52.26 seconds. Sophomore Marquise Hurst (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) also ran the second-fastest time of his career at 52.73 seconds.
  • Senior Jonathan Jacobo (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) placed fifth in the 800m with his second-best career time at 1:59.29. Freshman Trey Maciejewski (Rensselaer, Ind./Rensselaer Central) made his collegiate debut in the event and he clocked in at 2:02.32. Sophomore Andy Damon (Crestwood, Ill./Oak Forest) topped his old PR, crossing at 2:07.33. Sophomore Jack Zvejnieks (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) made his season debut in the race, recording a time of 2:15.44.
  • Senior Isaac Sytsma (Highland, Ind./Indiana Tech/Calumet St. Joseph, Highland) finished in second place in the Mile with the seventh-quickest time in school history, and his fourth-best as a Cougar, at 4:17.33. Senior Julian Rosenbach (Joliet, Ill./Joliet JC/Joliet West) ran his second-best time of the season, crossing at 4:38.32. Sophomore Alejandro Velazquez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) bested his old PR by over eight seconds with a mark of 4:52.52. Freshman Xavier Sananisai (Rockford, Ill./Jefferson) made his collegiate debut, clocking in at 5:13.61.
  • Junior Rohindeep Bhattel (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) set a new PR with a time of 9:15.48 in the 3000m. Rosenbach shattered his previous PR by over 20 seconds, finishing at 9:16.32. Freshman Joey Lagattolla (Romeoville, Ill./Plainfield East) came away with a time of 10:15.17.
  • Senior Luke Snedden (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) ran almost six seconds faster that his old PR in the 5000m, and he placed fourth overall, with a time of 15:37.90. Sophomore Luis Lopez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) demolished is previous PR by almost 30 seconds after he finished seventh with a mark of 15:46.32. Senior Josiah Sianez (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) ran in the event for the first time in his career, crossing at 16:14.07 to place 10th. Junior Ben Morrey (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) also made his debut in the race, finishing at 16:24.76
  • Also running in the 60m Hurdles, junior Charlie Watson (Cedar Lake, Ind./Hanover Central) crossed at 9.58 seconds in his season debut in the race.
  • The 'A' squad for the 4x200 Relay of sophomore Jayquan Hampton (Chicago, Ill./Ogden International), sophomore Nazheer Moore (Lansing, Ill./T.F. South), Thomas and sophomore Charles Campbell (Chicago, Ill./Quincy/Reavis) placed third with the second-best time in school history at 1:31.69. The 'B' team, unlisted, placed fourth at 1:33.79.
  • The 4x400 Relay group of Watson, senior Ronnie Foster (Peoria Heights, Ill./Peoria Heights), Harris and Moore finished eighth overall at 3:35.82
  • In the Long Jump, Foster placed second with a distance of 6.85m, his second-best career mark and the third-best all-time for Saint Xavier. Sophomore Faruq Sulaimon (Oak Forest, Ill./Andrew) recorded his third-best career distance at 6.10m to tie for 11th overall. Senior Ameen Abdus-Sabur (Chicago, Ill./Carver Military Academy) tied for 13th at 6.07m, the mark tying for his second-best career jump.
  • Sulaimon logged the second-best distance of his career in the Triple Jump at 12.00m.
  • Junior Riley Lundgren (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) finished second in the Shot Put, recording his second-best career throw at 15.14m. Senior Ayobami Arokoyo (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) made his season debut, placing fifth with a distance of 14.27m. Junior Donovan Jackson (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King) was sixth with a throw of 13.94m, setting a new PR. Sophomore Thomas Imburgia (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) finished seventh with a mark of 13.53m. Senior Mark Pinnock (Miami Gardens, Fla./Krop) recorded his second-best career throw at 13.22m, good for ninth place. Senior Isaac Adams (Mackinaw, Ill./Dee-Mack) checked in with a distance of 12.35m. Junior Drake Hayes (Minooka, Ill./Minooka Community) posted his second-best mark at 11.42m. Sophomore Thomas Toefield (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Laurence) came away with his best toss of the season at 10.18m. Senior Robert Davis (Oak Forest, Ill./Tinley Park) recorded a season-best toss as well at 9.66m, just ahead of freshman Luis Perez (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards), who made his collegiate debut, at 9.65m. Fifth-year senior Martin Tolentino (Burbank, Ill./St. Laurence) appeared in the event for the first time in his career, posting a throw of 7.71m.
  • In the Weigh Throw, Jackson finished in third place with his second-best career throw at 16.26m. Junior Justin Laws (Roxana, Ill./Roxana) also recorded his second-best toss, placing fourth with a distance of 15.19m. Sophomore Connor Whalen (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) was fifth overall with a new PR of 15.10m. Adams registered his second-best career toss after finishing eighth at 14.30m. Lundgren had his second-best career throw as well at 13.27m. Sophomore Alberto Zavala (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) established a new PR with a toss of 12.50m. Arokoyo competed in the event for the first time since 2023, and he set a PR at 12.12m. Imburgia made his season debut in the discipline with a throw of 11.43m, Davis set a new PR with a toss of 10.69m, while sophomore Emiliano Zavala (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) also came away with a new PR with a throw of 9.67m.
Saint Xavier makes the trip down Interstate-57 to compete in the Walter Cramer Invite hosted by Olivet Nazarene University on Friday, January 31 in Bourbonnais, Ill.
