CHICAGO – For the third consecutive week, the pair of senior
Sean Harris (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) and junior
Connor Whalen (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) swept the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Track & Field Awards for the Saint Xavier University men's track & field team when the awards were announced by the league office Thursday morning. Harris claimed first-place honors in the 110m Hurdles at the Don Kleinow Memorial Invitational hosted by Siena Heights University (Mich.) on Friday in Adrian, Mich., while Whalen logged the best throw in the Hammer for the win at the Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) Outdoor Open on Saturday in Bourbonnais, Ill. Whalen has now won all four CCAC Field Athlete of the Week awards for the Cougars this season.
- Harris posted his second-fastest career time in the preliminaries on Friday, hitting the NAIA 'B' Standard at 14.36 seconds. In the finals, he ran the best mark at 14.48 second to win the event for the second time this season, and fifth time overall. Harris also ran in the 200m, placing second with a time of 21.56, his sixth-best career time, also the programs sixth-best. On Saturday, Harris became just the third runner in school history to run a sub-50 second time in the 400m. He established a new personal record (PR) of 49.16 seconds, fifth-best in team history, to claim third place. He was also a part of the 4x100 Relay Team that finished second with a time of 41.86 seconds, ninth-quickest in school history.
- Whalen hit the NAIA 'B' Standard after recording a throw of 56.56m. It was his second win in the event this season, and fourth in his career. The distance was Whalen's third-best effort, also the third-best in program history.
Saint Xavier travels to Joliet, Ill. to take part in the two-day CCAC Championships that begin in Friday, May 2 at Joliet Memorial Field.
