Sean Harris (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) broke his own school record with a first-place finish in the 200m at 21.45 seconds while also hitting the NAIA 'B' Standard to help the Saint Xavier University men's track & field team earn a second-place finish with 126 points Friday afternoon at the St. Ambrose University (Iowa) Finals Week Invite in Davenport, Iowa. It was the third time in his career that Harris has won a 200m race, and the second straight season at the SAU Finals Week Invite. He also established a new personal record (PR) in the preliminaries of the 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.26 seconds enroute to winning in the finals with a time of 8.33 seconds for his third career win in the discipline. Joey Lagattolla (Romeoville, Ill./Plainfield East) took first in the 5000m with a time of 16:00.52. He took nearly 10 seconds off of his old PR to win his first collegiate race The host Fighting Bees won the meet with 143 points.
- In the finals of the 60m Dash, junior Jamaurien Thomas (Chicago, Ill./Ogden International) set a new PR with his sixth-place time of 7.06 seconds. He qualified with a time of 7.15 in the prelims. Senior Ryan McFadden (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) ran a season-best time of 7.42 seconds. Junior Brandon Ferguson (Rockford, Ill./Viterbo/Auburn) ran in the event for the first time this season, clocking in at 7.45 seconds. Junior Nazheer Moore (Lansing, Ill./T.F. South) checked in at 7.50 seconds and redshirt freshman Nick Gomez (Burbank, Ill./Wisconsin-Platteville/Reavis) posted a time of 7.68 seconds.
- Thomas came away with a new PR in the 200m, placing fourth at 22.55 seconds. Freshman Logan Perak (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) logged a time of 23.53 seconds. Junior Charles Bockenkamp (Park Hills, Mo./Mineral Area/Central) crossed at 23.69 seconds for a new season-best. Junior Jayquan Hampton (Chicago, Ill./Ogden International) PR'd with his time of 23.71 seconds. McFadden recorded his second-fastest career time at 24.00 seconds. Moore registered a mark of 24.07 seconds. Freshman LeShawn Scott (Oak Park, Ill./Eisenhower) made his debut in the event, clocking in at 24.32 seconds, as did freshman Alex Hay (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) with his time of 24.74 seconds.
- Freshman Sam Elusoji appeared in the 400m for the first time, recording a time of 55.22 seconds, followed by Perak at 55.63 seconds and Hay's season-best time of 55.68 seconds.
- Freshman Josh Bosstel (Portage, Ind./Portage) debuted in the 600m, running in a time of 1:30.39, as did freshman Benjamin Gresham (Lansing, Ill./T.F. South), who crossed at 1:36.33.
- Competing in the 1000m, senior Rohindeep Bhattal (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) clocked in with his second-best career time at 2:34.02 to take second place. Sophomore Xavier Sananisai (Rockford, Ill./Jefferson) claimed fourth place in his first collegiate appearance in the race with a time of 2:42.48.
- Senior Ben Morrey (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) finished fourth in the Mile, shaving 10 seconds off his old PR with a time of 4:33.19. Junior Andy Damon (Crestwood, Ill./Oak Forest) also PR'd by nearly nine seconds with a seventh-place mark of 4:34.99.
- Junior Alejandro Velazquez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) bested his previous PR by close to 25 seconds with a ninth-place time of 9:19.25. Freshman Will Morrey (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) debuted in the race, crossing at 9:27.66. Graduate student Julian Rosenbach (Joliet, Ill./Joliet JC/Joliet West), making his first appearance of the season, booked a time of 9:31.23.
- Also running well in the 5000m, junior Luis Lopez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) placed second at 16:17.32, while freshman Michal Wreczycki Jr. (Palos Park, Ill./Stagg) was third overall at 16:19.42 seconds.
- In the 60m Hurdle finals, Harris bested his teammate, Ferguson, by one-one hundredth of a second, 8.320 seconds to 8.330 seconds, to help the Cougars finish first and second. Bockenkamp placed fifth at 9.33 seconds and Scott was eighth at 9.73 seconds. In the preliminaries, Ferguson clocked in at 8.40 seconds, Bockenkamp had a mark of 9.32 seconds and Scott crossed at 9.63 seconds.
- The 4x400 Relay team of Bockenkamp, senior Charlie Zufan (Orland Hills, Ill./Andrew), Moore and Harris placed fourth with a time of 3:27.27 seconds. The 'B' group of Ferguson, Elusoji, Bosstel and Ben Morrey recorded a time of 3:39.92 for ninth, and the 'C' squad of Gresham, Hay, Perak and Scott finished 10th at 3:41.57.
- Gomez logged a fourth-place jump of 6.26m in the Long Jump. Hampton debuted in the event, taking sixth with a distance of 6.06m.
- Freshman Kobi Onyima, making his collegiate debut, was fourth overall in the Triple Jump with a mark of 10.12m.
- In the Shot Put, senior Riley Lundgren (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) placed sixth with a throw of 13.64m, followed by an eighth-place toss of 13.41m, a career-best by freshman Brennan Culpepper (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South), a new PR by senior Drake Hayes (Minooka, Ill./Minooka Community) at 13.05m to take ninth and a 10th place mark of 12.88m by freshman Nickoles Lathem (Griffith, Ind./Calumet New Tech) for a new PR. Junior Thomas Imburgia (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) posted a throw of 12.64m. Redshirt freshman Adam Turner (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) PR'd as well with a toss of 12.26m. Junior Thomas Toefield (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Laurence) checked in with a distance of 10.79m, while sophomore Luis Perez (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards) posted his best Indoor throw at 10.57m.
- Junior Connor Whalen (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) came away with a second-place finish, recording the second-best throw in team history at 16.71m in the Weight Throw for a new PR. Freshman Jason Crowe (Worth, Ill./Shepard) was seventh after his toss of 13.37m, followed by Culpepper's mark of 13.08m at eighth overall and another PR throw by Hayes, who was ninth, at 12.99m. Turner placed 11th with a distance of 12.59m. Latham debuted in the event, coming away with a toss of 11.69m, while Sophomore Nate Kalk (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) logged his second-best throw of the season at 11.69m as well.
Saint Xavier travels back to Davenport, Iowa, after the holiday break, to participate in the St. Ambrose Bumble Rumble on Saturday, January 17.
