INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 7 ranked Saint Xavier University women's bowling team placed 22
nd out of 66 teams this weekend at the 56
th Annual Columbia 300 Hoosier Classic at Western Bowl in Indianapolis, Ind. The Cougars tallied 4,596 pins after five individual games on Saturday. They competed in 15 Baker Games on Sunday, totaling 2,998 pins for a two-day total of 7,594, missing the cut for the eight-team tournament championship. No. 6 seeded Judson University (Ill.) defeated No. 1 SCAD-Savannah (Ga.) in the finals, 3-2.
- SXU had six bowlers compete in the Baker Games on Sunday: fifth-year senior Barbara Lunsford (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West), senior Monica Darrow (Elgin, Ill./South Elgin), senior Megan Gillson (Minooka, Ill./Minooka Community), junior Emma Zalud (Bolingbrook, Ill./Downers Grove South), sophomore Breanna Pimentel (Northlake, Ill./West Leyden) and freshman Jade Gabor (Newark, Ohio/Newark).
- Saint Xavier averaged 199.9 pins over 15 Baker Games with a high of 245 pins in game one. They also topped 200 or more pins eight more times (200 in game two, 210 in game three, 205 in game four, 215 in game six, 209 in game seven, 206 in game 10, 202 in game 13 and 221 pins in game 15.
- Darrow was the top individual scorer for the Cougars, collecting 965 pins over five games with an average of 193.0. She hit a high of 234 pins in game two, along with 200 pins in game five.
- Gillson wasn't too far behind her teammate, hitting 961 pins. She averaged 192.2 pins with a high of 259 in five games.
- Gabor tallied 769 pins across four games with an average of 192.3. She hit a high of 210 pins in game two.
- Zalud also bowled in four games, knocking down 708 pins for an average of 177.0. She hit a high of 188 pins in game one.
- Pimentel totaled 686 pins in four games with an average of 171.5. She hit a high of 193 in game three.
- Lunsford competed in three games recording a total of 507 pins. She averaged a score of 169.0 with a high of 197 in game three.
Saint Xavier concludes the regular season and now prepares for the Intercollegiate Team Championship Sectionals that begin on March 7. Location to be announced.
