No. 6 SXU Women’s Bowling Advances to ITC Nationals

Allen Park, Mich. – For the second consecutive season, and the third time in program history, the No. 6 ranked Saint Xavier University women's bowling team advanced to the Intercollegiate Team Championships (ITC) National Tournament after the Cougars earned a fourth-place finish at one of the four ITC Sectional Tournaments at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Mich. SXU competed in 64 Baker Games, 32 apiece and 16 per session, this past weekend to decide which teams moved on. Saint Xavier sat in third on Saturday with a total of 6,168 pins, and they finished fourth on Sunday with a total score of 12,315 pins, 54 behind third-place Mount St. Mary's University (Md.). Also advancing out of the sectional were North Carolina A&T and University of Pikeville (Ky.). That quad and the top four finishers from the other three sectionals will compete at the ITC National Tournament at South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas, Nev. starting on Thursday, April 17.

The Cougars also had six bowlers compete in the Intercollegiate Singles Championships (ISC) on Friday, also in Allen Park, Mich. Fifth-year senior Barbara Lunsford (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) posted the top score for SXU, placing 29th with a total of 1,208 pins averaging a score of 201.3. She just missed a 300-game in game three, coming away with a mark of 289.
  • Senior Monica Darrow (Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) was 40th overall after she knocked down 1,172 pins for an average of 195.3. She hit a high of 225 pins in game one, followed by 200 pins in both games two and four, respectively.
  • Freshman Jade Gabor (Newark, Ohio/Newark) finished 54th with a total of 1,146 pins and averaging a score of 191.0 per game. She hit a high of 212 pins in game three after she toppled 202 pins in game two.
  • Sophomore Breanna Pimentel (Northlake, Ill./West Leyden) placed 90th with her score of 1,075 pins. She averaged 179.2 pins per game with a high of 211 pins in game three and striking 201 pins in game four.
  • Senior Megan Gillson (Minooka, Ill./Minooka Community) knocked down 1,035 pins for a 109th overall finish. She hit an average of 172.5 pins per game with a high of 202 in game two.
  • Freshman Elizabeth Voss (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) rounded out the lineup for SXU, collecting 958 pins to place 152nd. She bowled an average of 159.7 with a high of 183 pins in game three.
No. 6 Saint Xavier prepares for the NAIA Women's Bowling National Championships that begin on March 20 at 7:00 am central at Five Star Lanes in Sterling Heights, Mich.
