Foster Shines; SXU Claims Third at CCAC Championships

Davenport, Iowa – Senior Ronnie Foster (Peoria Heights, Ill./Peoria Heights) repeated as the Outstanding Male Field Athlete of the meet for the Saint Xavier University men's track & field team as the Cougars finished in third place at the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at the Wellness and Recreation Center in Davenport, Iowa. Foster earned All-CCAC in three disciplines, winning the Triple Jump for the third consecutive season with a program-record distance of 13.94m and winning the Long Jump for the second year in a row, and breaking his own school record, with a mark of 7.14m to hit the NAIA 'B' Standard. Foster was also a member of the 4x400 Relay Team that finished in third with a time of 3:22.42. As a team, SXU totaled 117.5 points behind runner-up, and host, St. Ambrose University (Iowa), who had 209 points, and CCAC Champion Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.), with their team score of 258 points in the eight-team field.

Joining Foster as an individual champion, senior Isaac Sytsma (Highland, Ind./Indiana Tech/Calumet St. Joseph, Highland) won the Mile, recording the second-fastest time in SXU history and hitting the NAIA 'B' Standard for the second time this season with a time of 4:12.36. Senior Lendale Franklin (Chicago, Ill./Roosevelt/Argo Community) won the 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.24 seconds in the finals. He also posted the best time in the preliminaries at 8.28 seconds.

Franklin also earned All-CCAC with his second-place finish in the 60m Dash, crossing the line at 6.91 seconds. He had the quickest time in prelims, also at 6.91 seconds, tied for the third fastest time in team history. Junior Sean Harris (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) placed second behind Franklin in the 60m Hurdles to claim All-CCAC honors, setting a new personal record (PR) in the finals at 8.34 seconds. He qualified in the preliminaries with a time of 8.35 seconds, a time he had ran three times previously.

Senior Luke Snedden (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) ran the sixth best time in team history, smashing his old PR by over 34 seconds, to place second and earn All-CCAC with a time of 15:03.89. Harris broke his own program record in the prelims of the 200m at 21.83 seconds, he picked up All-CCAC recognition in the final with his third-place time of 21.98 seconds.

The 4x400 Relay Team posted the second-fastest time in Saint Xavier history, their best time in CCAC Championship history. Along with Foster, the group featured sophomore Nazheer Moore (Lansing, Ill./T.F. South), junior Charlie Zufan (Orland Hill, Ill./Andrew) and junior Myles Money (Crete, Ill./Marian Catholic). Senior Isaac Adams (Mackinaw, Ill./Dee-Mack) established a new PR with his third-place finish in the Weight Throw as he topped the 15.00m for the first time at 15.22m to earn All-CCAC.
  • Money tied his PR in the prelims of the 60m Dash, but he just missed the qualifying mark at 7.15 seconds. Sophomore Jamaurien Thomas (Chicago, Ill./Ogden International) clocked in with a time of 7.24 seconds, just ahead of Moore's time of 7.26 seconds.
  • Franklin finished in seventh place in the 200m finals with a new PR of 22.22 seconds. He qualified with the sixth-best time in the preliminaries at 22.45 seconds. Sophomore Charles Campbell (Chicago, Ill./Quincy/Reavis) also PR'd in the prelims with a time of 22.30 seconds.
  • In the 400m, Zufan placed eighth with a mark of 50.82 seconds. Redshirt sophomore Karam Jaber (Palos Heights, Ill./Shepard) ran his third-fastest career time at 51.76 seconds. Senior Gavin Dudley (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) crossed with his second-quickest career time at 52.20 seconds, while Money clocked in at 52.45 seconds.
  • Junior Charlie Watson (Cedar Lake, Ind./Hanover Central) ran his best time of the season, and third-best of his career, in the 600m after he finished 10th with a time of 1:27.31. He was just ahead of Freshman Trey Maciejewski (Rensselaer, Ind./Rensselaer Central), who debuted in the race, with his time of 1:27.34. Sophomore Marquise Hurst (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) was near his teammates with a PR time of 1:27.52.
  • Senior Jonathan Jacobo (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) registered a time of 2:00.62 in the 800m. Sytsma wasn't too far behind at 2:02.53.
  • Sytsma bested his own school record in the 1000m, just missing All-CCAC, however he hit the NAIA 'B' Standard with his fourth-place time of 2:27.87. Junior Rohindeep Bhattel (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) set a new PR with an eight-place finish of 2:32.63. Jacobo recorded his second-best career time, placing ninth at 2:34.87. Senior Josiah Sianez (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) ran his second-fastest career time at 2:39.98.
  • Also running in the Mile, Jacobo finished seventh with a time of 4:22.52. Bhattel was a step behind, taking eighth place and setting a new PR at 4:22.85. Sianez ran his fastest career time with a PR of 4:32.08.
  • Snedden established a new PR in the 3000m after his seventh-place finish of 8:45.02. Bhattel shaved almost five seconds off his previous PR, crossing at 8:57.71. Junior Ben Morrey (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) crushed his old PR by almost 16 seconds at 8:59.70. Sophomore Luis Lopez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) narrowly set a new PR with a time of 9:09.25.
  • In the 5000m, Lopez ran a PR-time of 15:45.70. Freshman Joey Lagattolla (Romeoville, Ill./Plainfield East) bested his old PR by over 20 seconds, clocking in at 16:09.51, just ahead of Morrey's new PR time of 16:09.92.
  • Jaber placed seventh in the finals of the 60m Hurdles with a time of 9.16 seconds. He qualified with a time of 8.88 seconds. Watson posted a PR in the finals, placing eighth at 9.18 seconds, and he qualified with a then PR of 9.20 seconds.
  • The 4x800 Relay Team of Hurst, Maciejewski, senior Julian Rosenbach (Joliet, Ill./Joliet JC/Joliet West) and sophomore Andy Damon (Crestwood, Ill./Oak Forest) placed fifth with a time of 8:35.73.
  • Freshman Tracy Lee (Chicago, Ill./Proviso West) tied for eighth in the High Jump, logging his second-best career mark at 1.73m. Foster made his indoor debut in the event with a jump of 1.68m.
  • Competing in the Long Jump, sophomore Faruq Sulaimon (Oak Forest, Ill./Andrew) recorded a distance of 6.05m. Senior Ameen Abdus-Sabur (Chicago, Ill./Carver Military Academy) came away with a mark of 5.99m.
  • Sulaimon set a new PR in the Triple Jump with a fifth-place distance of 12.56m.
  • Junior Riley Lundgren (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) was seventh overall in the Shot Put with a distance of 14.01m. Senior Ayobami Arokoyo (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) followed with a throw of 13.44m and sophomore Thomas Imburgia (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) came away with a toss of 12.93m.
  • Also competing in the Weight Throw, sophomore Connor Whalen (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) posted his second-best career throw with a fourth-place draw of 15.03m. Junior Justin Laws (Roxana, Ill./Roxana) had a Top 10 finish was well, placing sixth with a toss of 14.53m for his third-best career throw.
Saint Xavier gears up for the Grand Valley State University (Mich.) Big Meet Invite. The two-day meet starts on Friday, February 14 in Allendale, Mich.
