Olivia Mathis (Akron, Ohio/Lourdes/St Vincent-St. Mary) and senior
Lexi Clarke (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet JC/Plainfield South) both repeated as NAIA All-Americans in the 800m, with Mathis taking fourth overall with a time of 2:15.65 and Clarke crossing at 2:20.65 to place eighth in the finals for the Saint Xavier University women's track and field team at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships Saturday afternoon at the Alachua County Sport and Events Center in Gainesville, Fla. The trio earned eight points for the Cougars as they tied for 28
th with three other schools out of 60 teams. University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) won the National Championship after totaling 58 points.
- Deana Paninka set the program record in the preliminaries of the 600m on Day Two Friday afternoon with a time of 1:34.72 to qualify. Her time in the finals was the second-best in school history.
- In the prelims of the 800m, Mathis set a new personal record (PR) and she ran the second-fastest mark in SXU history with the second-quickest qualifying time of 2:14.55. Clarke snagged the last qualifying spot in the preliminaries with her second-best time of the season at 2:15.58.
- One Day One, junior Alanna Rodriguez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Homeschool) competed in the 3000m Race Walk. She finished 13th overall with a time of 17:41.30, her fastest time of the season.
- The 4x800 Relay Team of Clarke, Deana Paninka, senior Kristin Booker (St. Louis, Ill./Cardinal Ritter) and Mathis, along with alternate sophomore Amaya Rique (St. Louis, Mo./Mineral Area/Seckman), established a new school record in the prelims with their time of 9:24.73, nearly three seconds quicker than the mark set back in January.
Saint Xavier concludes the Indoor portion of its schedule and will return to action for the Outdoor season later this month.
