CHICAGO – The Saint Xavier University men's track & field team split its roster, bringing select competitors to the Marian University (Ind.) Easter Throws Open on Thursday in Indianapolis, Ind. and the two-day 55
th annual 'Gina' Relays hosted by Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich. on Thursday and Friday. Senior
Ayobami Arokoyo (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) took first in the Discus, hitting the NAIA 'A' Standard for the third time this season, with a distance of 52.45m in Indianapolis. In Michigan, senior
Jonathan Jacobo (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) ran the fourth-best time in school history in the 1500m Championship race, placing third with a new personal record (PR) of 3:59.13. He is just the third runner for the Cougars to complete the race in under four minutes.
Marian Easter Throws Meet:
- Arokoyo also posted his second-best career throw, and the program's second-best all-time, with a second-place toss of 16.00m. Sophomore Thomas Imburgia (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) had a Top 10 throw as well, surpassing the 14.00m-mark for the first time in his collegiate career, with a new PR of 14.08m. He is just the fifth thrower from Saint Xavier to record a toss of 14.00m or more.
- Imburgia also came away with a Top 10 draw in the Discus, registering his second-best career distance at 41.71m to place ninth overall.
- Sophomore Connor Whalen (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) broke his team record in the Hammer for the third time this season, becoming the first thrower for the Cougars to top the 50.00m-mark with his first-place throw of 53.28m. It is the second consecutive meet that he has won the event.
'Gina' Relays Meet
- Junior Ryan McFadden (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) ran in the 100m Dash Open race, running a season-best time of 10.90 for a fifth-place finish.
- In the 800m Open race, senior Luke Snedden (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) recorded his second-best career time, placing fourth with a time of 2:04.17, a step ahead of teammate, freshman Trey Maciejewski (Rensselaer, Ind./Rensselaer Central), who also ran his second-fastest career time at 2:04.26 to take fifth place.
- Senior Isaac Sytsma (Highland, Ind./Indiana Tech/Calumet St. Joseph/Highland) competed in the 800m Championship race, finishing in third place with a season-best time of 1:54.39. It was his and the program's third-quickest time ever in the race. Jacobo placed seventh overall with his second-best career time at 1:57.91.
- Also running in the 1500m Championship race, junior Ben Morrey (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) posted a new PR after finishing in fifth place, crushing his old best by over 16 seconds at 4:02.24. Junior Rohindeep Bhattel (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) also PR'd by over two seconds with a seventh-place time of 4:05.42.
- Snedden shaved nearly 45 seconds off his previous PR in the 5000m in an Outdoor event, finishing seventh in the Championship race at 15:31.86.
- Senior Josiah Sianez (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) established a new PR in the 3000m Steeplechase Championship race, taking over 13 seconds off his old mark, finishing fourth overall at 10:08.96.
Saint Xavier participates in the four-day Drake University (Iowa) Relays beginning on Wednesday, April 23. The Cougars will also compete in the Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) Outdoor Open on Saturday, April 26.
