CHICAGO – The Saint Xavier University men's track & field team sent a select number of athletes to the Drake University (Iowa) Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday, and had the main roster compete at the Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) Outdoor Open on Saturday in Bourbonnais, Ill. Senior
Ayobami Arokoyo (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) stood out once again as he hit the NAIA 'A' Standard at both meets in the Discus, he posted the second-best throw in the NAIA this season after placing fifth in the Discus Championships at 55.92 against NCAA Division I and Division II athletes. Arokoyo took first on Saturday with a distance of 52.76m and he won the Shot Put with his second-best career throw at 15.95m.
Senior
Isaac Sytsma (Highland, Ind./Indiana Tech/Calumet St. Joseph/Highland) broke a school record that stood for 10 years when he crossed the finish line in first place in the 1500m at 3:56.27, topping the mark of 3:56.95 that was held by recent SXU Hall of Fame inductee Brian Corcoran (2010-15) set on April 11, 2015. Karam Jaber (Palos Heights, Ill./Shepard) won a pair of events, claiming the best time in the 110m Hurdles at 15.72 seconds and breaking his own program record in the 400m Hurdles with a first-place time of 54.75 seconds.
Sophomore
Connor Whalen (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) continues to impress as he topped his program record in the Hammer for the fourth time this Spring. He hit the NAIA 'B' Standard with a second-place throw of 55.45m, the 13
th best distance in the NAIA so far this year.
Drake Relays:
- Senior Lendale Franklin (Chicago, Ill./Roosevelt/Argo Community) competed in the 1100m Hurdles, clocking in at 19.81 seconds.
- The 4x100 Relay team of junior Sean Harris (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower), junior Myles Money (Crete, Ill./Marian Catholic), sophomore Nazheer Moore (Lansing, Ill./T.F. South) and Franklin posted the fifth-fastest time in team history at 41.84 second in the preliminaries.
- For just the second time in Saint Xavier history they fielded a 4x200 Relay Team, the group featuring sophomore Jamaurien Thomas (Chicago, Ill./Ogden International), Harris, Moore and Money ran a time of 1:29.34.
- The Cougars also competed in the Sprint Medley Relays (SMR) 1600m for the first time ever. The squad of Junior Ryan McFadden (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest), Thomas, senior Ronnie Foster (Peoria Heights, Ill./Peoria Heights) and Sytsma placed 14th overall at 3:36.79.
- Foster came away with his second-best career jump in the Triple Jump at 14.52m for a fifth-place finish.
ONU Outdoor Open:
- In the 100m Dash, Money narrowly established a new personal record (PR) at 10.87 seconds with his sixth-place draw. McFadden clocked in with a season-best time of 10.95 seconds, as did Thomas with his time of 11.01 seconds. Moore posted his second-fastest time of the season at 11.14 seconds. Sophomore Marquise Hurst (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) made his collegiate debut in the race, crossing at 11.36 seconds. Sophomore Jayquan Hampton (Chicago, Ill./Ogden International) ran his second-quickest time of 2025 at 11.64 seconds.
- Money PR'd in the 200m as well, finishing in second place at 22.33 seconds. McFadden ran a season-best time, and the third-fastest of his career, at 22.87 to claim ninth place. Moore was a step behind at 22.96 seconds. Hurst booked his second-quickest time of the season at 23.09 seconds. Senior Gavin Dudley (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) ran in the race for the first time this year, checking in at 24.20 seconds.
- Dudley ran his third-fastest career time in the 400m at 53.80, competing in the event for the first time his season as well.
- Junior Rohindeep Bhattel (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) posted his second-best career time in the 800m, finishing 11th at 1:59.93. Junior Ben Morrey (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) recorded his second-fastest career time as well, clocking in at 2:00.26, just ahead of senior Julian Rosenbach (Joliet, Ill./Joliet JC/Joliet West), who also came away with his second-quickest career mark at 2:00.66. Freshman Trey Maciejewski (Rensselaer, Ind./Rensselaer Central) registered a time of 2:10.11. Sophomore Andy Damon (Crestwood, Ill./Oak Forest) finished at 2:10.43. Freshman Xavier Sananisai (Rockford, Ill./Jefferson) came away with his second-best mark of the season at 2:15.00.
- In the 1500m, Bhattel ran his second-fastest career time at 4:05.44 to place seveth overall. Rosenbach finished in eighth place with a new PR time of 4:08.82, taking nearly five seconds off his old mark. Damon posted his second-best career time at 4:27.23. Sananisai checked in at 4:46.16 for his second-best effort of the year.
- Sophomore Luis Lopez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) made his season debut in the 3000m, shattering his old PR by almost 30 seconds with his sixth-place time of 9:01.08. Freshman Joey Lagattolla (Romeoville, Ill./Plainfield East), running in the event for the second time this year, crossed at 9:27.16. Sophomore Alejandro Velazquez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) bested his previous best by five seconds with a new PR time of 9:30.77
- Jabar qualified for the finals of the 110m Hurdles with a time of 16.44 seconds.
- In the Long Jump, Foster registered his second-best distance of 2025 at 6.72m to claim third place. Sophomore Faruq Sulaimon (Oak Forest, Ill./Andrew) posted a distance of 5.69m, while senior Ameen Abdus-Sabur (Chicago, Ill./Carver Military Academy) made his season debut in the event with a jump of 5.20m.
- Sulaimon set a new PR in the Triple Jump with a mark of 12.11m to take eighth place.
- Sophomore Thomas Imburgia (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) placed sixth in the Shot Put with his throw of 13.20m. Junior Riley Lundgren (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) finished seventh with a mark of 13.04m. Junior Donovan Jackson (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King) also placed in the Top 10, coming in 10th with a throw of 12.67m. Junior Drake Hayes (Minooka, Ill./Minooka Community) registered a toss of 11.05m, sophomore Thomas Toefield (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Laurence) recorded a throw of 10.86m and senior Robert Davis (Oak Forest, Ill./Tinley Park) came away with a season-best distance of 10.08m.
- In the Discus, Lundgren tallied his best throw of 2025 after placing second at 43.57m. Imburgia logged a Top 10th finish, placing ninth at 39.16m. Jackson established a new PR with his throw of 38.65m, just ahead of the mark of 38.57 booked by junior Justin Laws (Roxana, Ill./Roxana), his best throw of the season. Whalen PR'd with his toss of 37.30m, as did Hayes with his effort of 28.57m.
- Sophomore Alberto Zavala (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) PR'd in the Hammer for the second time this year, placing seventh overall at 45.86m. Laws posted his third-best career throw at 44.72m to take eighth place. Jackson joined his teammates in the Top 10 with a new PR throw of 44.04m for a ninth-place draw. Imburgia checked in with a throw of 35.28m. Davis registered his third-best career toss at 30.75m, while sophomore Emiliano Zavala (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) toppled his old PR by almost four meters with a distance of 28.69m.
- Freshman Nate Kalk (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) surpassed the 40.00m mark for the first time in his career, placing third with a throw of 40.55m. Freshman Luis Perez (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards) recorded his third-best throw of the year at 36.23m. Fifth-year senior Martin Tolentino (Burbank, Ill./St. Laurence) logged a throw of 32.55m. Toefield came away with his second-best career distance at 30.20m, while Davis registered his third-best career toss at 24.96m.
Saint Xavier prepares for the two-day Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Outdoor Championships that begin on Friday, May 2 at Joliet Memorial Stadium in Joliet, Ill.
