Joliet, Ill. – For the third consecutive season, senior
Ayobami Arokoyo (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer, and the Saint Xavier University men's track & field team finished third out of eight teams at the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Outdoor Championships this weekend with 153 points to tie the school record for points in a meet set last season at the same meet. It is the third straight season that the Cougars have placed third overall at the CCAC Championships, and fourth time overall. Arokoyo started the meet on Friday by taking first in the Discus and hitting the NAIA 'A' Standard once again with a distance of 54.69m, his third consecutive win at the CCAC Championships after taking second as a freshman in 2022. On Saturday, he won the Shot Put for the second time this season, and fourth time in his career, with a throw of 15.64m.
Senior
Isaac Sytsma (Highland, Ind./Indiana Tech/Calumet St. Joseph/Highland) posted the second-fastest time of his career, and the fourth-best in team history, to win the 1500m at 3:58.94. It is the second week in a row that he has won the race. Sytsma also won the 5000m, debuting in the event for the Cougars, with a time of 15:07.38, the fastest time by a Saint Xavier runner ever at the CCAC Championships. He is just the third SXU runner to ever win the race and the first since former standout Mario Scarcelli (2015-19) did so on May 4, 2019 at the same meet.
Senior
Ronnie Foster (Peoria Heights, Ill./Peoria Heights) won the Long Jump for the second time this season, coming away with the second-best jump of his career at 6.95m. He also won the Triple Jump at the CCAC Championships for the first time since his freshman campaign in 2022, and for the seventh time in his career, with the sixth-best distance of his career at 14.17m.
Junior
Sean Harris (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) won the 110m Hurdles for the third time in his career by setting a new personal record (PR) at 14.69 seconds. He is the first Saint Xavier runner to win the event at the CCAC Championships since Dan Spencer (2012-14) did so on May 3, 2014.
Harris was a member of the 4x100 Relay Team that finished second with the fifth-quickest time in school history at 41.78 seconds along with junior
Ryan McFadden (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest, junior
Myles Money (Crete, Ill./Marian Catholic) and sophomore
Nazheer Moore (Lansing, Ill./T.F. South). Harris, along with Foster, Money and junior
Charlie Zufan (Orland Hills, Ill./Andrew) logged the fifth-fastest time ever at SXU in the 4x400 Relay to take second at 3:25.36. Harris also earned All-CCAC, set a new PR and hit the NAIA 'A' Standard with his second-place time of 20.81 seconds in the 200m.
Sophomore
Connor Whalen (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) placed second in the Hammer to become the first thrower for SXU to earn All-CCAC in the event with a distance of 53.25m, his third-best career toss.
Sytsma was a part of the 4x800 Relay Team that finished third overall with the fourth-best time in team history at 7:58.24 with junior
Rohindeep Bhattel (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence), senior
Jonathan Jacobo (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) and junior
Ben Morrey (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew). It was the first time the Cougars have run a sun-eight-minute time in the race since the program record of 7:50.52 was set on April 28, 2012.
- Four runners competed in the preliminaries of the 100m Dash, with two qualifying for the finals. Money and Moore secured the last two spots of the finals with their respective times of 10.87 seconds and 10.99 seconds. Sophomore Jamaurien Thomas (Chicago, Ill./Ogden International) just missed the cut at 11.07 seconds, and McFadden crossed at 11.22 seconds. In the finals, Moore PR'd with a time of 10.87 to place sixth, while Money was seventh overall at 11.38 seconds.
- In the prelims for the 200m, Harris was the lone qualifier for the Cougars at 21.47 seconds. Money narrowly missed the finals at 22.00 seconds, setting a new PR and running the fourth-fastest mark in school history. Thomas checked in at 22.73 seconds, just ahead of Moore's time of 23.16 seconds and McFadden's mark of 23.32 seconds.
- Money logged his third-fastest career time in the 400m, with a three coming at the same meet, when he crossed at 50.60 seconds to place seventh. Sophomore Marquise Hurst (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) came away with a new PR, clocking in at 51.19 seconds. Senior Gavin Dudley (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) ran a season-best time of 53.40 seconds. Sophomore Andy Damon (Crestwood, Ill./Oak Forest) ran in the race for the first time at the collegiate level, posting a time of 55.65 seconds, as did freshman Xavier Sananisai (Rockford, Ill./Jefferson) with his time of 56.40.
- In the 800m, freshman Trey Maciejewski (Rensselaer, Ind./Rensselaer Central) logged his second-best time of the year at 2:01.17. He was in lock step with teammates, Jacobo (2:01.31) and senior Julian Rosenbach (Joliet, Ill./Joliet JC/Joliet West) (2:01.55). Bhattel wasn't too far behind with his time of 2:03.34. Senior Josiah Sianez (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) PR'd after crossing at 2:05.71.
- Jacobo placed ninth in the 1500m with a time of 4:06.70, followed by Bhattel at 4:10.51. Rosenbach checked in at 4:12.25 and Morrey finished at 4:17.86.
- Senior Luke Snedden (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) shaved over four seconds off of his previous best in the 5000m, clocking in at 15:27.12. Sophomore Luis Lopez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) bested his old PR by over eight seconds at 16:17.73. Freshman Joey Lagattolla (Romeoville, Ill./Plainfield East) finished at 16:20.68.
- Running in the 10,000m, Snedden posted a new PR by nearly a minute with his sixth-place time of 32:16.46 for the 10th fastest mark in program history. Lopez debuted in the race, placing eighth with a time of 33:08.23, as did sophomore Alejandro Velazquez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) with a mark of 34:49.73.
- Harris qualified for the finals of the 110m Hurdles at 14.79 seconds, so did redshirt junior Karam Jaber (Palos Heights, Ill./Shepard) with his time of 15.97 seconds. Jaber just missed the podium with a fourth-place draw of 15.28 seconds, however he did PR.
- Jabar also finished fourth in the 400m Hurdles at 56.94 seconds.
- Competing in the 3000m Steeplechase, Sianez ran his second-best career time to finish fifth at 10:13.99.
- Sophomore Faruq Sulaimon (Oak Forest, Ill./Andrew) came away with the second-best jump of his career in the Long Jump at 5.93m. Moore completed a distance of 5.42m.
- Sulaimon finished seventh in the Triple Jump with a new PR of 12.50m.
- Sophomore Thomas Imburgia (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) was fourth overall in the Shot Put, setting a new PR at 14.49m. Junior Riley Lundgren (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) placed seventh with a throw of 13.82, just ahead of junior Donovan Jackson (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King), who finished eighth, at 13.69m. Senior Isaac Adams (Mackinaw, Ill./Dee-Mack) also placed in the Top 10 with a mark of 13.35m for a ninth-place draw.
- Four SXU throwers placed 8-11 in the Discus. Lundgren came away with a throw of 42.15, just better than Imburgia's toss of 42.10m. Jackson finished with a distance of 37.97, while junior Justin Laws (Roxana, Ill./Roxana) had a throw of 37.14m.
- Jackson established a new PR in the Hammer with his fifth-place toss of 47.82m. Laws finished eighth at 44.73m, Adams was ninth at 44.34m and sophomore Alberto Zavala (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) was 10th at 42.42m.
- Freshman Nate Kalk (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) registered the second-best throw in school history in the Javelin, placing seventh overall, with a distance of 45.95m. Fellow freshman, Luis Perez (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards), tallied a new PR as well with his throw of 39.08m. Fifth-year senior Martin Tolentino (Burbank, Ill./St. Laurence) booked his second-best career throw at 38.79m. Sophomore Thomas Toefield (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Laurence) bested his old PR by over two meters at 32.61m, while senior Robert Davis (Oak Forest, Ill./Tinley Park) logged his second-best distance of the year at 23.32m.
Saint Xavier returns to Joliet Memorial Stadium to compete in the two-day USF Fighting Chance Invite that begins on Friday, May 9 in Joliet, Ill.
