CHICAGO – Redshirt senior goalkeeper
Daniel Martinez (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week when the awards were announced by the league office Tuesday morning/afternoon. Martinez helped the Cougars go 1-0-1 last week in conference play, collecting nine saves, allowing just one goal for a goals against average (GAA) of 0.50, and recording a shutout. It is the fifth time that he has been named CCAC Defender of the Week, claiming the award four times last season.
- Martinez made five saves to earn his second shutout of the season in a 2-0 triumph at Governors State University (Ill.) last Wednesday.
- He finished with four saves to help SXU earn a 1-1 draw with University of St. Francis (Ill.) on Saturday at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill.
- Martinez has started 10 games in goal, playing 828:58 with 25 saves, a GAA of 1.86 and a record of 3-6-1. In the CCAC, he is tied for No. 2 in shutouts, No. 3 in games played, starts in goal and minutes played, tied for No. 6 in total saves and No. 7 in GAA.
Saint Xavier (5-6-1/1-1-1 CCAC) makes the trip to La Crosse, Wis. to take on Viterbo University (Wis) in a CCAC contest on Tuesday, October 6. The match is scheduled for a 2:00 pm start.
