No. 2 Saint Xavier Sweeps CCAC Player of the Week Awards

CHICAGO – For the third time this season, the No. 2 ranked Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team (15-2/6-0 CCAC) swept the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Volleyball Player of the Week awards when they were announced by the league office Tuesday morning. Graduate student opposite hitter Matt Pennala (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach City/St. John Bosco) won CCAC Attacker of the Week for the second week in a row, and third time overall this season, junior setter Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) repeated as the CCAC Setter of the Week, his fifth win this year, and senior libero Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) claimed CCAC Defender of the Week, his third award in 2026. The trio helped the Cougars go 2-0 on the week, earning a pair of CCAC wins, a three-set victory over Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) last Tuesday, and a sweep of Governors State University (Ill.) last Thursday.
  • Pennala totaled 23 kills on a .333 attack percentage (23-8-45), eight digs, seven blocks (one solo) and four service aces. He had six kills, three aces, three digs and two blocks (one solo) in the win at Olivet Nazarene. Pennala came away with a match-best 17 kills on a .500 attack percentage (17-4-26), five blocks, five digs and a service ace against Governors State.
  • Daniels handed out 63 assists, averaging 10.50 assists per set, with nine digs, five aces, two blocks and two kills. He had 29 assists, six digs, three service aces and a block vs. the Tigers. Daniels tallied 34 assists, surpassing 2,000 for his career, two aces, two kills and a block in the win over the Jaguars.
  • Velez collected 23 digs, a perfect reception percentage on 14 attempts and a pair of assists. He started the week with four digs and an assist to help defeat ONU. Velez scooped up a season-best 19 digs with an assist at GSU.
No. 2 Saint Xavier (15-2/6-0 CCAC) makes the trip to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to play No. 11 Mount Mercy University (Iowa) in an NAIA Top 15 contest on Friday, March 13. First serve is set for 6:00 pm.
