Raleigh, N.C. – The Saint Xavier University men's track & field team kicked off Outdoor competition, sending a small contingent to the North Carolina State University Raleigh Relays at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility in Raleigh, N.C. Junior
Connor Whalen (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) established a new program record, breaking his old record, in the Hammer toss with a distance of 56.80m to hit the NAIA 'B' Standard, and recording the third-best throw so far in the NAIA. He placed 19
th out of 52 competitors and was the only NAIA thrower against competition from NCAA Division I and Division II programs. No team scores were recorded.
- Senior Sean Harris (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) had a strong showing as well, coming away with the third-fastest time in team history, and his third-best career time, at 21.25 seconds. He finished 15th out of 104 runners.
- SXU ran in the 4x100 Relay with the group of junior Jayquan Hampton (Chicago, Ill./Ogden International), Harris, junior Nazheer Moore (Lansing, Ill./T.F. South) and junior Jamaurien Thomas (Chicago, Ill./Ogden International). They posted a time of 43.22 seconds to place 23rd overall.
Saint Xavier makes the trip to Bourbonnais, Ill. to take part in the Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) Tiger Open on Thursday, April 2.
