Connor Whalen (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) hit the NAIA 'B' Standard for the second meet in a row as he had the best distance in the Hammer at 56.69m, his second-best mark of the season, and senior
Sean Harris (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) also hit the NAIA 'B' standard in consecutive meets as well with his first-place time, and a new personal record (PR) in the 200m Dash at 21.11 seconds. He also won the 110m Hurdles with a new personal record PR time of 14.50 seconds for the Saint Xavier University men's track & field at the three-day Chicagoland Championships hosted by Elmhurst University in Elmhurst, Ill. It is the fourth time that Harris has won the 110m Hurdle event, and the third year in a row that a Cougar runner won the race as former standout
Lendale Franklin (2022-25) won the previous two seasons, and it was just the second time that he won the 200m. For Whalen, it is the third time that he has placed first in the Hammer, the only SXU thrower to do so. As a team, Saint Xavier collected 10 points, though not every race/discipline was scored, tying for 12
th overall out of 20 programs.
- In the 100m Dash preliminaries, junior Jamaurien Thomas (Chicago, Ill./Ogden International) ran his fourth-best career time, just missing the cut for the finals at 10.99 seconds. Freshman Logan Perak (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg), making his Outdoor debut, clocked in at 11.51 seconds. Junior Jayquan Hampton (Chicago, Ill./Ogden International) posted his second-best career effort at 11.51 seconds. Junior Nazheer Moore (Lansing, Ill./T.F. South) crossed at 11.72 seconds. Freshman Brian McBride (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) made his Outdoor debut as well, recording a time of 12.28 seconds.
- Thomas ran his second-fastest career time in the 200m at 22.47 seconds. Senior Charlie Zufan (Orland Hills, Ill./Andrew) logged a time of 22.63 seconds. Freshman Sam Elusoji (Broadview, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield), making his Outdoor debut, finished at 23.19 seconds. Moore crossed at 23.31 seconds. Hampton booked his second-best career mark at 24.16 seconds.
- Elusoji had the best time for a Cougar runner in the 400m at 52.61 seconds. Freshman Ben Gresham (Lansing, Ill./T.F. South), running in his first Outdoor race, clocked in at 57.67 seconds.
- Competing in the 800m, senior Rohindeep Bhattal (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) established a new PR with a time of 1:59.55. Sophomore Trey Maciejewski (Rensselaer, Ind./Rensselaer Central) PR'd as well, running over a second quicker than his old mark, at 2:00.08. Freshman Michal Wreczycki Jr. (Palos Park, Ill./Stagg) debuted in the race in Outdoor competition with a time of 2:01.21, as did freshman Josh Bosstel (Portage, Ind./Portage), finishing at 2:04.30. Two more freshmen runners made their Outdoor debuts with Alex Hay (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) crossing at 2:09.76 and Christian Orozco (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) clocking in at 2:11.71, respectively.
- Bhattal logged his third-best career time in the 1500m at 4:05.88. Fifth-year senior Julian Rosenbach (Joliet, Ill./Joliet JC/Joliet West) bested his previous best time with a new PR of 4:08.58. Junior Alejandro Velazquez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) shattered his old PR by nearly six seconds, posting a time of 4:16.99. Senior Ben Morrey (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) was just a step behind his teammate at 4:17.33 seconds. Junior Andy Damon (Crestwood, Ill./Oak Forest) busted his previous PR by almost six seconds at 4:19.34. Sophomore Xavier Sananisai (Rockford, Ill./Jefferson) toppled his old PR by more than 13 seconds, running on the same track from a season ago, clocking in at 4:23.28.
- Making his Outdoor debut in the 3000m, freshman Joey D'Anca (Palos Heights, Ill./St. Laurence) checked in with a time of 9:47.20. Sophomore Carlos Villanueva (Summit, Ill./Argo Community), making his Outdoor debut as well, logged a time of 11:43.11.
- Sophomore Joey Lagattolla (Romeoville, Ill./Plainfield East) ran his second-fastest career time in the 5000m at 15:56.82. Freshman Will Morrey (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) made his Outdoor debut with a time of 16:17.25.
- In the prelims of the 110m Hurdles, Harris had the top qualifying time at 14.90 seconds. Joinging him in the finals, junior Brandon Ferguson (Rockford, Ill./Viterbo/Auburn) posted a time of 15.83 seconds. Ferguson placed second behind Harris in the finals at 14.76 seconds. Junior Charles Bockenkamp (Park Hills, Mo./Mineral Area/Central) crossed at 17.44 seconds, while freshman LaShawn Scott (Oak Park, Ill./Eisenhower), making his Outdoor debut, finished at 18.10 seconds.
- Ferguson finished in second place in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 55.83 seconds. Bockenkamp booked a time of 58.18 seconds to place 11th. Scott ran a time of 1:03.06.
- Debuting in the 3000m Steeplechase, Wreczycki Jr. was 10th overall at 10:40.28.
- The 4x400 Relay Team of Hay, Maciejewski, Gresham & Bosstel recorded a time of 3:46.41.
- Redshirt freshman Nick Gomez (Burbank, Ill./Wisconsin-Platteville/Reavis) placed ninth in the Long Jump at 6.43m. Freshman Daniel Cabal (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East), making his Outdoor debut, posted a distance of 6.06m.
- Gomez also competed in the Triple Jump, coming away with a mark of 11.66m.
- In the Shot Put, freshman Nickoles Latham (Griffith, Ind./Calumet New Tech) had the furthest toss for SXU thrower, in his Outdoor debut, at 13.83m. Senior Riley Lundgren (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) posted a throw of 12.96m. Junior Thomas Imburgia (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) checked in with a toss of 12.81m. Junior Thomas Toefield (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Laurence) registered his second-best career distance at 11.88m.
- Debuting in the Discus, freshman Brennan Culpepper (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) finished 10th overall with a throw of 41.03m. Lundgren booked a toss of 38.47m. Imburgia had a toss of 37.48m, just ahead of the mark of 37.42m by freshman Jason Crowe (Worth, Ill./Shepard) in his Outdoor debut. Latham came away with a toss of 36.30m.
- Joining Whalen in the Hammer, Latham logged a distance of 42.20m and Culpepper had a toss of 40.11m. Imburgia set a new PR with his throw of 38.52m. Sophomore Adam Turner (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles) made his Outdoor debut with a toss of 37.19m. Senior Drake Hayes (Minooka, Ill./Minooka Community) bested his old PR by nearly 10m with a distance of 32.28m.
- Sophomore Nate Kalk (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) demolished his previous PR in the Javelin by almost 15m, placing ninth with a mark of 43.06m. Crowe checked in with a toss of 43.23m. Sophomore Luis Perez (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards) PR'd as well after he had a throw of 39.51m. Toefield had mark of 26.74m.
Saint Xavier participates in the 56
th Annual 'Gina' Relays hosted by Hillsdale College (Mich.). The three-day meet starts on Thursday, April 16 in Hillsdale, Mich.
