Men’s Golf Takes Fifth at SXU Spring Invite

Homer Glen, Ill. – The Saint Xavier University men's golf team hosted the inaugural SXU Spring Invite at Old Oak Country Club in Homer Glen, Ill., finishing fifth out of six teams with a two-day score of 642 (+74) after posting a round of 331 on day one, and improving by 20 strokes on day two with a tally of 311. Conditions improved between Thursday and Friday, as the tournament started with wet and windy weather with intermittent rain before clearing up later in the day, but Friday provided ample sunshine with wind. Junior Dan Stood (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) had the top score for the Cougars, tying for 13th overall with a score of 159 (+17). He recorded a round of 86 on day one, making a birdie on the Par-Four 18th hole. Stood lowered his score by 13 shots on day two, carding a 73 with four birdies on the Par-Five first hole, the Par-Five fifth hole, the Par-4 10th hole and the Par-Five 17th hole.

Indiana University Kokomo won the team title with a cumulative score of 611 (+43), three shots ahead of runner-up Judson University (Ill.). Judson had the top individual scorer, as Riley Coakley finished +6 (148) after back-to-back rounds of 74. He was one shot better than runner-up Oliver Gearlds on IU Kokomo.
  • Sophomore Talon Hawk (Athens, Ohio/Morro Bay) tied for 16th with a total score of 160 (+18). He shot a round of 80 on both days.
  • Freshman Ryne Shields (Oak Lawn, Ill./Brother Rice) tied for 22nd after carding a tally of 163 (+21). He completed the first 18-hole loop with a mark of 85, sinking a birdie-putt on the Par-Four 13th hole. He took seven shots off his score from round one, logging a score of 78 Friday afternoon.
  • Junior Joey Glennon (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) also tied for 22nd. On Thursday, he shot an 83. Glennon shaved three shots off his total in round two with a mark of 80.
  • Freshman Thor Hock (Palos Park, Ill./Brother Rice) placed 27th after shooting a 36-hole total of 168 (+26). He started the tournament with a round of 83, and wrapped up competition after carding a score of 85.
Saint Xavier prepares for the two-day Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Golf Championships at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. The tournament begins in Thursday, April 23 at 8:00 am.
