Silvis, Ill. – The Saint Xavier University men's golf team finished in a tie for fourth place out of nine teams at the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Golf Championships after 54 holes of play Friday afternoon at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., shooting a team score of 946 (+106). The Cougars lowered their score in all three rounds after they shot a 322 (+42) in round one, a 318 (+38) in round two and a 306 (+26) in round three. Junior
Dan Stood (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) shot the second-lowest score by an individual golfer in school history Friday when he turned in a card with a score of 66. He shot a 36 on the front-nine before making four birdies and an Eagle on the back-nine with a score of 30 to complete the tournament. Stood made a birdie on the Par-Five 10
th hole, the Par-Four 13
th hole, the Par-Three 16
th hole and the Par-Four 18
th hole and eagling on the Par-Five 17
th hole. Overall, Stood tied for 11
th place with rounds of 80 and 86 on day one, for a total tally of 232 (+22). He birdied the 10
th hole in round one. Stood just missed the team record for lowest round of 65 set by former standout Kirby Brown (2012-15) at the William Woods (Mo.) Invite in round one on October 1, 2012.
The host school, St. Ambrose University (Iowa) won the tournament to earn an automatic berth into the NAIA Men's Golf National Championship Tournament also at TPC Deere Run that begins on May 12. The Fighting Bees shot 902 (+62), 30 strokes ahead of runner-up Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.). JJ Kaczynski from Viterbo University (Wis.) won the individual title with a 54-hole more of 224 (+14), winning by one shot over Ben King from St. Ambrose.
- Sophomore Talon Hawk (Athens, Ohio/Morro Bay) also shot a three-round score of 232 (+22) to tie for 11th with his teammate. Hawk was consistent on both days, turning in rounds of 78, 77 and 77. In round one, he made a birdie putt on the Par-Four sixth hole. In the final round, Hawk converted four birdies on the Par-three fourth hole, the sixth hole, the 10th hole and the 13th hole.
- Junior Joey Glennon (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) placed 24th with a total of 244 (+34). He lowered his score all three rounds, shooting an 84 with a birdie on the 13th hole in round one, and an 81 to complete day one. Glennon improved his score by two strokes on Friday, draining a birdie of the Par-Four 14th hole.
- Freshman Thor Hock (Palos Park, Ill./Brother Rice) wasn't too far behind his teammate, finishing 27th with a tally of 246 (+36). He shot an 80 in his first loop, followed by an 82 on the second go-around, making back-to-back birdie putts on the 17th and 18th holes. Hock wrapped up the tournament with an 84 on day two.
- Freshman Ryne Shields (Oak Lawn, Ill./Brother Rice) was 35th overall with a 54-hole score of 258 (+48). He shot a 90 in round one, however he lowered his score by 12 shots in his second loop as he made birdies on the Par-Three third hole and the Par-Four eighth hole. Shields finished tournament play with another round of 90 Friday afternoon.
