Chapin, S.C. – The Saint Xavier University Men's Golf team traveled to Chapin, S.C. to compete in the Koala Classic hosted by Columbia College (S.C.) at Timberlake Country Club. The Cougars finished in a tie for 11
th place out of 19 teams with a two-day score of 643 (318, 325) at +75. Sophomore
Talon Hawk (Athens, Ohio/Morro Bay) finished in a three-way tie for 30
th overall with a 36-hole tally of 158 (+16). Hawk sank a birdie on the Par-Five 18
th hole in round one, carding a round of 81. He lowered his score by four strokes in round two, logging a score of 77. Montreat College (N.C.) had the top team score at 605 (290, 315) for a +37. Thomas Campbell from Spartanburg Methodist College (S.C.) shot the lowest individual score, finishing at even par at 142 (70, 72).
- Junior Dan Stood (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) was just one stroke behind his teammate, tying with four other golfers for 33rd place at 159 (+17). He drained three birdie putts on day one: on the Par-Four fourth hole, the Par-Five 12th hole and the Par-Four 16th hole for a score of 75. Stood finished day two with a mark of 84.
- Freshman Ryne Shields (Oak Lawn, Ill./Brother Rice) tied for 39th with three other golfers, booking a two-day total of 161 (+19). He converted four birdie putts to begin the tournament on Monday on the Par-Four sixth hole, the Par-Four 11th hole, the 12th hole and the 18th hole for a score of 78. Shields made two more birdies on Tuesday, on the Par-Four seventh hole and again on the 18th hole, for a round of 83.
- Junior Joey Glennon (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) tied with two other golfers for 55th with a score of 165 (+23). He completed the first 18-hole loop with a mark of 84. Glennon took three shots of his score, coming away with a tally of 81 to complete the tournament.
- Freshman Thor Hock (Palos Park, Ill./Brother Rice) placed 94th overall with a two-day score of 185 (+43). He booked a score of 85 in round one. Hock drained a birdie putt on the 18th hole, finishing round two with a mark of 100.
Saint Xavier returns to action on Monday, March 30 when they take part in the Cougar Shootout hosted by Illinois Central College at Weilbring G.C. in Normal, Ill.
